yea, I agree about games not having the same "depth" as older games. Take Final Fantasy X for example. I only played that game for about an hour but it was like 5 minutes play, 30 minutes watch video. It didn't seem like there was much to play at all, it was like watching a movie. I remember playing FF5 on SNES. It was one of the best ones I have ever played.

Of course better graphics are good for the consumer/gamer but we also need GOOD GAMES.

yeah, console games were so much better in the PSX days when you could copy the games you wanted to play.

I just have the money to buy $90 +tax games --games that I usually finish within a week and get bored of within the month.

Games that I truly get my "bucks worth" out of are few and far in between

FFVII (PSX) - about 300 to 400 hours worth of play
Chrono Trigger (SNES) - about 160 hours worth or play

all other games are not really worth it.

I just heard news of the PSP and the PSX.

The PSP is a Playstation 1 like handheld.
The PSX is a Playstation 2 re-release with many new features like dvd burning and tivo like functions.

take it easy, ff7 took me 24 hours to clear.. and maybe an additional 10-12 hours worth of sidequests.. nothing near 400 hrs lOLL

the longest console game I've played was xenogears, and I drained a nice 80 hours to clear it, plus numerous hours in the multiplayer battle arena.

the longest game I've EVER played was morrowind, which I probably spent well over 100 hours on. ahh its so satisfying being the grandmaster of all the guilds, heh. :thepirate

Where did I say it took me 400 hours to finish the game? I beat the game numerous times. The replay value on that game is 20 out of 10.

And it takes 30 minimum to beat FFVII. 40 hours is more practical, unless you are using cheats and don't have to build-up. It should take about 50 to 60 hours in total if you want all the sidequests and .

That is very odd. Ever since the PS2 was released, the original playstation has been commonly reffered to as the "PSX".

Wasn't the PSX shorthand used significantly before that?

I don't recall ever *not* referring to the first Playstation as a PSX...I believe most of the publications referred to it like that since it was the initial 'code name' for the system, Playstation X.

Just heard that the Playstation 3 , called the 'GRID' is going to be released on May 26th 2005 and will be 200 times powerful than the origianl.

Actually it is getting released in 2006, same as Xbox 2. As far as being 200 times more powerful, that might not hold true. Sony worked with HP and Toshiba to develope the new "cell" technology for the PS3. Pretty much each cell has a 1gig processor and 1gig of ram. Now you can fit 36 of these cells on a dime. They were talking about how they could actually assign each character in a game a cell and have near endless AI possibilites, which would increase replay values on games. Unfortunatly they are now re-evaluating this technoloy saying it might be to costly to mass produce by 2006.

that's true...it's almost 100% certain they won't have the "cell" technology in the PS3 because of it's scheduled production date, which is too close to the PS3's release date.

Anyways, I'm still enjoying this generation too much to not care when xbox2, ps3 (which will not be named Playstation, according to ps2.ign.com) and gc2 come out.

there's still so many good games available now, and coming out.

edit oh, and I can't wait to see the hype for the next consoles. It's so funny when the PS2 was nearing release, they had people like George Lucas and others say how powerful the PS2 is. I still remember the "it can reproduce Toy Story-quality graphics in real-time" :haha: what a joke...

200 times is not that big of a number ;)

try comparing your pentium 100mhz and the latest pentium in 2 years from now ;)
