Dj's , Producers and their lives outside of music

Seeing how this isn't really about music, but more about the people behind it I guess this is where I should put it heh. I've had a few things running through my mind recently and I wanted to find out what other people thought.

Before I get into anything I'm only going to talk about mid range dj's / producers or local guys. So if you think of an answer that has the names Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Burren or the likes try again :)

Anyways! What do you think these guys do outside of djing / producing? Do they have day jobs or do they do contract work a couple days a week? Take the local big name dj's in your major city for example. Here in Toronto we've got a nice assortment of Dj's:

Jelo - Has produced a couple tracks, plays out a lot and works in a local record shop.
Dekoze - ?
OS2 - ?
Mark Scaife - ?

Those are just a couple names that popped into my head (at 4:40am no less). What do they do? I can't believe anyone who works a 9-5ish job in a major city wants to go home and work on a track or polish up for a set the next night.

And what about great producers like: Neo & Farina, Nu NRG, Coast 2 Coast, SHOKK, Lange, G&M Project, Hemstock & Jennings, York etc.... Do these guys make enough money to live off their music? I can't imagine producing a fairly sucessfull track could net that much money since their target market are DJ's mostly, and money from royalties on compilation albums. Even doing tons of remixs like producers do, how much do they realisticly make?

Lets just say for a moment, that when I graduate college in December (hopefully!) that I get a job starting at $35,000 CAD ($1 US = $0.72 CAD). This is hypothetical remember hehe. That's aprox $2900 / month or $730 / week (before tax). Working a "real" job I also have access to benifits and the posibility of advancement which could easily put me at $40,000 in a couple years.

It's got to make you wonder what lives these people that we seem to worship at times live. Does Pulser live in a nice house and takes a drive to the store in a BMW because he's produced a couple great tracks? I think it's more realistic to think that he lives in an apartment / condo and drives a P.O.S :)

Insight is all I ask! I guess the whole graduation thing is starting to loom over my head. I by NO means have delusions of grandure and think (or even want) to be a superstar DJ/Producer but I DO want to be able to play out at clubs while I work a "real" job and not be tired and burnt out.

I know that's a couple different topics in there, but I felt the need to ramble! Thoughts?

My day starts getting up at 6 in the mornining and go through a typical freshman day at school..
I come home, spin and produce until I go to bed. On the weekends, I work on getting my pilots liscense, I go flying on saturay. And either on friday or staurday nights or sometimes both, I have friends over and we stay up all night spinning and ding dong ditch
