virus c setup

Whats up every one. I just got a access virus c module and am unfamiliar with midi setup. I have an external evolutions mk 249c keyboard that I am able to send the notes to the virus. I know that the communication is there since I can record what I play in protools but I just can't get sound driverd to work. After searching it comes up with no new devices found. Any suggestions? Thanks
hey cheggy
Yup, I had this problem as well. Here's the facts. The virus needs to recieve midi data from the keyboard. It also needs to recieve midi data from sounddiver. Finally, sound diver needs to recieve midi data from the virus.

So you need to have 2 x midi in on your computer and 1 x midi out.

I take it you have a sound card with midi in/out or a midi interface with at least 1in/1out.

If you have 2 or more ins on your midi interface/soundcard, then run the 249c into one port. Run the virus into the other port. Then run the out lead into the virus.

Now if you only have 1 midi in and 1 midi out port, then install the USB midi drivers for your 249c if you haven't already.
* Run the USB out of the keyboard and into the USB in on the computer.
* Run midi out of the computer into midi in on the virus
* Run midi out of the virus into midi in on the computer.

Souddiver needs to have an open looped connection to the virus both in and out in order for it to accept that there is something there. Once you set it up like this, it will automatically detect everything.

Hope that helps mate. If you need anything else, just ask, cos i run a virus c and an MK249C as well, and it took me forever to figure this one out.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm running the evolution through usb and the virus through digi001. I tried your suggested setup and I know that the virus is receiving the notes. It displays notes on lowpage when I play but for some reason its just not communicating with the sound driver. Well, I just reformatted my hard drive since its been acting up lately and I'm going to start from scratch. Thanks for the advice. I'll probably have a few more questions later.

Well, I don't think too many of us are have a Digi001.

Here is my guess: usb from evolution to computer, midi out from soundcard to virus and from virus to soundcard.

Connect cables to output 1 on the virus and MAKE SURE internally the sound is routed to output 1 in the edit menu (I think). Connect these cables to the Digi001 inputs and route the signal to the computer pci soundcard (if there is one) for recording and back out to the speakers.

Make sure in your sequencer that you set the midi in to the keyboard and midi out to the virus. Also, in the virus make sure that the midi channel is set to channel 1 (for convenience). Make sure in the sequencer it is also channel 1.

I don't know the setup exactly, but the most important part is to make sure the internal audio routing in the virus is right.
hey cheggy
Have you set both hi-page and lo-page to system exclusive data (sysex). You can find this hiding somewhere in the system settings

SO I reformatted my pc did a clean install of all the software and still nothing. I'm going to check with digi design to see if there is an interface issue. Thanks for the help

OUT (MIDICONTROL) -> IN (midi interface)
IN (VIRUS) -> OUT (midi interface)

That won't work. The virus needs to be connected both in and out to the computer.

SOLTRI, did you change low page and hi page to sysex. Cos by default, one of them is not sysex and needs to be changed to be used with sounddiver

you arent going to do midi dump every 5 minutes right? ;)
when i want to do midi dump i simpley chance the connections dump and put them back
hey cheggy
Yeah, but he wants to be able to use soundiver, and you need to have an open connection to use it. His keyboard has usb out as well as midi, so he has enough connections to have everything in at the same time with out needing to change them round for midi dump.

I sent an email to digidesing and am waiting a response. Sounddriver is not recognizing the the digi001 and I think this is where the problem lies. I
Well heres my setup....

Evolution keyboard is connected via usb
digi001 midi out -> virus midi in
midi out virus -> midi in digi001

on the virus
I disabled ClockRx
Both lowpage and highpage are set to sysex
All other settings are default

when scanning in sounddriver it displays

Model: virus a
at: computer
Input: all from 1
output:all from b: S B live from midi syth
ID:all from one.

I've tried updating sounddriver but still get crap and it won't allow me to select my sound card when i try to manually configure it. Hopefully, digidesign will come through and help me resolve this issue. And all this time I thought LA traffic was frustrating. Thanks
