Sup everyone. I make alot of music on my PC using various synths and programs. But I want to step into music with hardware production.
Can anyone recommend any affordable hardware synths and sequencers ? |

How much is affordable. In US$ would be helpful, I don't know Canadian dollar values too well.
Have a look for second hand stuff though on ebay. There tend to be some jp-8080s going pretty cheap on there a lot |

Oh, and I highly recommend using your computer for a sequencer (with a good program like cubase, sonar xl2 or logic).. I find it much easier and more versatile than using hardware sequencers.
But you will need to invest in a good sound card and midi connector device. I personally use a M-Audio Delta 44 soundcard, paired up with a Midiman Midisport 2x2 midi-to-usb converter. |

Hey Chrono, how is that Delta 44? I'm thinking about getting one. |

I like the delta 44.. I've had no problems with it at all, and it has amazing audio quality. I recommend it! |

I also have delta 44, great soundcard. Before I had lot's of problems with VIA KT-133 motherboard but with new Epox KT-400 it works smoothly. M-audio doesn't recommend older VIA chipsets with delta series so this is important to know before buying anything. |

I am thinking about upgrading from my audiophile2496 because I need more inputs and there is the advantage of the outboard DACs in the breakout box. I wish they made a 6 in 6 out, but nooooo. : ) |

:conf: they do make one with 6 in 6 out... the delta 66, and they've even got 10 in 10 out on the delta 1010!
Maybe you should consider one of those!

Yikes!!!! You're right. I've looked at the Delta 66 in the past several times and when I look at the pictures of the breakout box there are always 4 ins and 4 outs, so I always assumed it was just a tricked out delta 44 with some improvements (I was always wondering about the 66 part).
Well, good. But still, I can't see where the other two ins and outs are. Anyway, I'll do more research.
As for the 1010...too expensive.
Thanks for the tip.:stongue:
Ok...did a little research and I think they are considering the 2 spdif connector as ins and outs.
Hmmm....in my book, that shouldn't be counted as in/out. Kind of misleading. Hey, I could be wrong though, seriously. |

Well, in my journey to evolve from amatuer sounding basement projects, I earlier decided to enquire toward hardware synths. You guys have been a LOT of help, but I am being told to stick with software. I normally use FruityLoops, with a bunch of VST soft-synths, but im not getting that professional sounding quality. Right now, im stepping into Reason 2.0 and getting ahold of some newer synths.
Now I know I probably wont get the sound quality of like, Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten, but how the hell do they get their synths to sound the way they do? That high energy, punchy, uplifting sound? Do you guys have any tips? Any softsynths that might sound like that ? |
