Is it worth getting a cheap turntable to listen to vinyl on?

Okay, lets start from the beginning.
At some stage I'd like to start learning how to Dj. Unfortunately I don't have the cash to get a decent pair of turntables, whether Technics, Vestax etc.
However, I'd like to start picking up some vinyl (to buy certain tracks, support the dj), also to start building a vinyl collection.
So the question is, is it worth buying a really cheap turntable to listen to the vinyl or rather just save & buy some decent like the 1200s or PDX2000?
I'm not asking which one is better, I don't want another Technics vs. Vestax wars. Just asking if it is worth getting some cheap, just for listening purposes?
Appreciate any advice that is offered.

| hmm get a stanton 60 or 80 u can dj on those and listen on them.. not too expensive. |

Two things you could do...
If you want to get a turntable to LISTEN to vinyl only...go for it, you don't need anything special, take good care of it and you could sell it when you really want to start djing...
Or you could just jump in, buy a not-too-expensive set of non-Gemini direct drive turntables and give it a shot, see if you would like it, you could get a decent starter kit for around 400 bucks, just to mess around on, if you really like it, you will want to save later for better tables, but you won't need em for at least a few months after, it's only after you pick up the basics that you become limited by the equipment. I say go for it ;), you might really enjoy it, don't worry about what all these kids say about technics, they just hear it and repeat it over and over.

If you're startin out dj-in for the first time you can better start out with a cheaper set of turntables and mixer than to make full costs.
Imagine that you have to find out if you like it or not, if you do than good for you :) but if you dont its a a little bit a wast of youre good money.
If you startin to get the hang of it than you can go expand youre set with quality equipment

| You may not even have to buy a turntable, try hitting up your relatives for a vintage record player which should more than do the trick for listening only. Unrelated, but remember to store your vinyl upright so it doesn't warp. |

Fyx, thanks. I hadn't really given too much thought to the old record player idea.
Appreciate the vinyl storing hint, didn't know that.

yeah
just get one of those old record players if your just gonna listen
they have pretty cool features
i was at a friends house and his dad had this record player
had like repeat and and the tone arm auto moves around and stuff
i was likse this is awesome lol |

| True, store your records upright, AND keep your precious ones in the middle, the ones on either end will still bend a little bit, and more than those in the center will. :) |

| Well, if it's just to listen to vinyl, I'd say "why not?" . I mean, you can probably get something for $5 or $10 these days. just remember that how ever long it takes to save up for one, it's going to take that much longer to save up for a real nice one (or 2). |
