I ask because I want to start spinning trance. How long will it take to get the hang of it?

it should really at least a year to get good

I 'mixed' for the first time when I was 8 or something (my neigbour has equipment), I wanted to be a DJ then, but for some reason music kinde moved to the background of my life (then I wanted to get into the computerbusiness or gamingindustry or become a vet). 2 years ago I started to listen heavy to elecronic music again, and now about 6 moths ago I bought a vmx300 and 2 cdj100s, and 2 months ago a stanton80.

bull.

It depends what you mean by good. It doesn't take 6 years to be throwing down quality sets. Maybe if you touch the turntables like once a year ;).

Even after a few months you should be able to put down sets that aren't bad to listen to. Sure there'll probably be a few mess ups, but they should be small. And you only get better from there.

Been spinning the tables for almost 1.5 years. As for how long you need to spin to get good, well, I remember listening to the sets I did three months after I got the tables, thinking they were really good. Listening to them now, they sound way worse than I remember. So the thing is, the common crowd of people that has never been DJing may think that you're mixing well, while a professional DJ may think otherwise.

Hour-wise I would guess anywhere from 200 hours + behind the wheels to advance to a semi-professional level. You know when you're ready to play out when you have confidence in what you're doing, like when I do a mix nowadays I'm never worried that it won't sound good, because it kind of goes automatically (of course everyone makes a mistake now and then).

That is true...

I've been spinning 5 or 6 months. While my girlfriend and some of my friends may think I've put together some pretty amazing sets, and I definitely like listening to them...i'm sure if tiesto or someone heard my stuff they'd think it absolute .

And listening to my sets from a few months ago..he's right.

I'm also not as consistent as I'd like to be. I kind of have good days and bad days. I'm sure that'll go away with more experience.
