Future of Trance...

Before i start- i'll just say that i realize that i might be setting myself up for a major flaming but thats ok, im looking for honesty.

It seems that a lot of times when i find someone interested in trance, they say "yeah i used to be really into that like 3 years ago", and many have since moved on to prog house, prog trance, and breaks.

Are trance listeners moving to theses new genres as a trend? Very few people that i meet say they still listen to hard trance as well as the new stuff.

I like the new genres as well, but im definetly not ready to give up the hard stuff/classic stuff as there is still millions of hours of it i have yet to discover. Though as a DJ i am interested in spinning a combo of all these genres.

Any opinions on where trance is going??

my theory is (in australia anyways) trance is going to become huge really really really fast like all of a sudden its there.... then just as fast it will go because people will start to find more personalized styles of music suited to thehm... i think the main one will be dnb and breaks! with the more heavy metal minded people going off to hardcore and gabba! then the trance bubble will collapse and all this other stuff will be huge.

i think electonic music is gonna be huge in otherwords but not so much trance!

so if ya wanna make mad money start producing dnb and breaks me thinx! =]

Breaks already is massive in australia however the Halycon and 5AM nights show that uplifting melodic trance is set for a resurgence. I'd say it's already started, it's just a matter of spreading the word to the general public.

As for the future of trance, no-one can listen to solely one genre for years and years. Music is just like a balanced diet, if you eat too much of one thing you get sick. Sure people have their favourite genres and this will oerate as the bulk of what they listen to, but the more diverse your listening habits, the more you grow to appreciate great, well produced music. So while trance may be people's favourite, i'd think most people float round and listen to other things.

true true i forgot how big breaks already is in aus i havnt really beinng there for a year and a half although i wennt back at chrissie andn went to feild day which was huge... still think its all gonna blow up huge like i mean everywhere radio tv ... as in it will be the next pop!

its always hard to say...it seemed that for a while a lot of people, myself included were getting tired of trance for one reason or another and went looking for other genres, but there seems to be a huge resurgence in trance this year because there has been so much good stuff made...really thats all i care about...not the genre...the quality.

It just depends on how your tastes evolve.....i hear great uplifting songs and dont want to listen to anything else...

It all depends on who the top DJ in the world is. Right now it's Tiesto, when someone takes his spot the genre of music they spin most will probably have the greatest sucess among global electronic music fans. I agree that people that get tired of trance head for harder things like breaks and DnB, hard trance, etc. But who says you have to limit yourselves, that's why I like DJs like PvD cuz he spins house tracks and Mauro cuz he spins tech tracks, and Fergie spins some hard house, they all realize you shouldn't limit your musical tastes cuz it is kind of like food, you need balance. Personally I take breaks from trance with 80's electronic music and euro cheese.

Does anyone else see how much deeper and darker trance is becoming?

I really don't know what to expect coming. I don't listen only to trance. If i like a house song i'll listen to it, if i like a eurodance song, i'll listen to it, etc. Trance will probably still be around in years to come.

Only thing i really see coming is that the genre classifations changing somewhat drastically. When i'm asked what type of music i like i reply with electronic, not trance, since i listen to more than just trance.

That probably made no sense in the end.

in the future everybody will listen to INFECTED MUSHROOM stuff
and armin will start making psychedelic trance

Most everyone evolves to something else.

Hell, I actually started in Progressive House (95ish), went to Jungle/D&B (the British first wave), went back to Progressive House, went to House, went back to Progressive House, went to Progressive Trance, then back to Trance, and now i'm split up between House, Breaks, proper Techno, and some IDMish-Electro.

As for Trance itself, it's already degrading a bit, since people get bored with things all too easy nowadays.

But, in general, I see it as fusing back with Progressive House, eventually, anyway.
