I've been looking at the Archos Jukebox FM Recorder 20GB. 'Bout half the cost of the iPod, can view text files, play Doom even, and of course play your music. No software needed to transfer, just plug it in and a new drive appears in windows; drag and drop. Better and longer lasting battery setup than the iPod; and I think the iPod battery is not removeable. Archos you just remove your NiHM batteries if you need to, and replace with fresh ones (eg. you need longer than 10hrs play in a row).
Unfortunately I can't get a hold of the Archos in Australia for any reasonable price (ie Australian retail price is twice and then some the American price, and none of the on-line US stores ship it to Aus). So I'm thinking if I can't get the best MP3 player then I'll settle for an even cheaper MP3/CD player. I'm lookin' at the Panasonic SL-SV550 CD/MP3 player IF I can find it for sale in Aus - so far no luck.
I would consider getting a solid state MP3 player if I wasn't travelling and wanting all my music with me. And if I was getting one of those I'd be lookin' at the iRivers - they look the goods. |

| Slim X is a piece of . I have the old 150 and I tried the new one. Batteries don't last long, ty sound quality, not loud enough, can't play cd's that are just a little scratched. And it's also too big by todays standards. I think my next portable would be a netmd. I tried my brother's Sharp netmd and it had perfect sound quality and also very loud. |

i already have a net md and i find it's useless cos it'll only allow you checkout music 3 times and then you have to check it back in again, so what then?? |
