New Cell Fone law in VA??????

My dad came home today and told me that he pulled over onto the side of I-66 to talk on the cell phone when out of no where, a state trooper pulls up behind him, turns on his blinkers and knocks on my dads window. He then asked my dad if he wanted a ticket and my dad was like "wtf?". So the trooper tells my dad that its illegal to park on the side of an interstate to talk on the phone. You'd think it was illegal to talk and drive at the same time but who knows anymore.
Any confirmation anyone????? |

I'm guessing the shoulder is supposed to be used for emergency situations only.
I'm not entirely sure about Virginia law, but technically you're not even allowed to stop and take a piss on the side of the road because that could potentially get in the way of an ambulance or a cop car on the run.
I'm not saying I like the law. I guess that's just the way it is. For the record, I stop the car to piss in the grass all the time. |

| yeah, it doesnt have anything to do with cell phones, major highways only allow you to pull over if there is an emergency. it's really dangerous to just be parked on the side, for no real emergency. |

| how stupid...your dad was actually being a RESPONSIBLE driver by pulling over to use his cell phone, and then he gets ticketed for it? what a bunch of ...I would rather have people on the side of the roads stopped talking on their phones than swerving in an out of traffic almost killing me. |

and if any cop ever gives me for that, i will ask him whether he'd rather have me speed -which is CERTAINLY illegal and dangerous- so that i wouldn't pee my pants, or if he rather have me pull over and take a leak to then drive relaxed and not endager anyone else's life... |

I guess the same would apply if I needed to make out with my girlfriend. Better to get it out of my system than to drive like a prick and endanger innocent peoples' lives. |
