Finally some true trance fans around the LA area. Seeing as you guys know dj mystik, youre probably from cali?
Well i cant stand this guy, all his songs sound alike. Even his jacked songs sound the same. Everybody that thinks they know trance around LA always refer to mystik and epic.
You know theres another person that works with mystik and thats DJ Jimmy Kim. I heard that guy is spinning some WICKED trance at the palace and especially the after parties? Is that true?? |

i listen to jimmy kim here often on saturday nites...i'd say he does have good skills as a dj but his track selection hardly ever changes...he's been playing sum of the same stuff for almost a yr. now..heck and even the order of the songs hasn't changed...

I guess I'm not a "real" trance fan because I listen to DJ Mystik and those other "DJ"s. I'm not saying that he's better than "real" trance producers and DJs because he isn't. You can totally tell the difference between, let's say, Tiesto, PvD, Mauro Picotto, and all those European producers/DJs. Anyways, I don't listen to the "asian" DJs' cds because they're "good", I like the .. way the music is. Not necessarily track selection, but I like the way they sound. Of course, there are some pretty crappy albums out, and DJ Mystik is by no means better than Mauro Picotto. I don't necessarily LIKE DJ Mystik. I like the way his albums go. Yes, it's old, but I like the "Crystal Skies" album. I guess it's just another genre of trance. People call Darude - Sandstorm "commercial cheesy trance" or refuse to classify it as "trance" at all. Yes, there was (or still is) a huge population of the "ravers" who think glowsticks are cool little toys and stuff like that. Actually, the people I know always calls trance (whether it be PvD stuff or the "cheesy" stuff like DJ Mystik) "asian" music. I dunno why, probably because there is a large population of asian "ravers".
You can't buy any of their cds in the retail stores like Tower Records, Best Buy, or any store like that. They are mostly sold as CD-Rs in places like Little Saigon (westminster) .
ANYHOW, what I'm trying to say is, in a way, isn't it good that they're getting the trance music out to fans? The whole copyright law deal is inexcusable (Did DJ Epic actually call "Fable" one of his own songs??). But I think these "DJ"s are good in a sense because they promote trance and let it out in the open for other people to see. As with all artists, I don't like ALL their mixes. In fact, I only like a small portion of them. There is a "Import Showoff" mix by DJ Mystik. It's CRAP. I mean he does a freestyle mix with songs like "Bounce wit Me" and fukin "Lucky".

First of all, I'm not saying asian djs are bad, some are good but most of them give me the apperance of taking other people's song. they should put their cd like this Robert Miles - Fable (DJ Epic Mix), give them some damn credit. DJ Epic's Picture
IMO even Keoki and Jean beat them, if they were true trance artists and underground, they should have respect for the artist who made the songs, after all, underground is where you respect music so you don't sell out. DJ Kim needs to change his line up a bit, it's good but needs a little change. Ironically, I'm asian. |

| i'm asian too.. well anyways, dj mystik spins cheese all his stuff is for pop. most so called :"trance": listeners who are my friends listen to dj mystik. You can tell dj mystik dont give credit is because if u ask a dj mystik listener they will say that they like HIS songs..very annoying.. btw is his mixing really good? |

....i'm not going to put down Dj Mystik, mainly 'cus if u've checked out his new disk, Crystal Skies, you'll clearly see he's matured beyond the "Socal poser ravers" fad. i can definently say MOST of his CD's were geared toward those highschool "ravers." however this new disk is great work.
anyways, about the copyright issues, i think it's more of Dj Mystik's fans fault for all this confusion, and maybe even the CD labeling. On the Dj Mystik disks, the playlist simply goes like this....
"Dj mystik presents Crystal Skies
01. rain drops falling intro
02. stan trance edition
03. don't break my heart
04. let u go....."
While it doesn't say Dj Mystik produced these songs, it also doesn't give credit to those that actually did create the songs, such as ATB and Airheads in this example. I think much of this confusion is caused by the people that host Dj Mystik at www.hypnotika.org because of they way they mark their playlists by saying Dj Mystik produced each song, and then the fans simply adding their ID3 tags to simply say Mystik made each song.

| I heard DJ Mystik a while back, and he's just like most American trance DJs (BT and Max Graham excluded): Dated tracks, boring sets, playing to an audience that hasn't heard good trance yet. I'll say he has potential, but if I ever get a set of decks, i'd easily whoop his a$$... |
