It alters a voice. You mix a voice with another signal so that the voice sounds like it is being spoken from another source. Basically, it makes words sound like they weren't spoken from a human.
Examples include the orange vocoder and vokator by native instruments. |

actually, the actual audual signal, does not contain the voice (modulator) signal, but only the carrier signal (i.e. a synth sound)
The modulator is used to shape the volume envelope of the carrier signal, in a number of individual spectral bands. Since the carrier defines what you hear, the carrier should be a harmonically rich sound, to ensure understandability of the voice (a saw waveforum vs. a sine waveform).
Simply said, you let the synth sound pronounce the voice signal

haha yes he does (erm...I do), the rest of the text is in dutch
The Vocoder itself is a Zoom RFX-1000 (it's a multi FX unit)
The carrier is Clavia Nord Rack 2 (a simple saw, any synth can do that)

| Pjotr I know you can do anything with your voice, I think you didn't even use a vocoder for this :) It's just your natural voice :) |
