How do they know how to produce hard trance without communicating with each other? IE: How does someone like me who doesnt live in Germany learn the tricks of making hard trance? When there isn't a soul who I can ask in person what's up. I have no one here who can help me. This forum and the internet is my only out.
This isn't a what sequencer i need or anything question. I'm aware that it's more about the creativity of the individual rather than the sophistication of the program. Hence where my problems are marinating, since I am about 1 month into my production adventure. I have very little in the way of knowledge. But i am not incompitant. I use Logic Exs24, and I do know how to make a song. I can lay down the notes in Logic for all my tracks and produce an entire song. Drums/Hook/Etc..Etc...... I'm simply having a difficult time pigeon holing myself into 1 style so i can buckle down....
Im pretty much stuck just Matrix editing notes week after week. And I know this is a good way to get results, but without knowing how do anything other than using Matrix Edit to create notes, I am limited in a big in way.
..honestly, I am not learning anything, I'm only perpetuating sub standard performance.
What should I be learning next? I can't think of anythin else to do since Matrix Edit works fine and since I have no idea of the possibilites, if I didnt come here and ask for assistance at this time, i most likely would have gone on for a year or more just matrixxing my notes and assigning my samples to them.
LoL.. Damn.. ^ I still cant get beyond this way of thinking.. Thats as far as i see for creating music at this time.. Make up notes that sound good.. and assign my samples to them.. I know nothing outside of this.. So every song comes out sounding very human.. In the sense that all the notes have normal values.. it's like a human is touching the keys when the notes are playing sometimes. I want a really robotic, methodical, techno style production. My methods are too simple.
I'd basically like some help evolving. Anyone who knows how to produce hard trance, and if you can visualise where im at, maybe and hopefully you can lift me up. Give me some advice where i can drastically improve the sound of my production using EQ/Reverb.. or whatever it REALLY is that I need at this moment... dont tell me to use this stuff if it isnt what i need help with yet.. Please make a suggestion so that I can elevate. I am dedicated, I have lost all of my impatience, and Im calm. I know that eventually my production knowledge will be second nature. It's simply a matter of time...
Thank you for reading.. |

Hey man, what's up. I also produce Hard German Trance.
Hamburg-style, DJ Dean, Tunnel Trance Force ;) as you can see from my sig.
My producer name is "Kompulsor". Listen to some of my tracks:
1. Kompulsor - Exxxperience
2. Kompulsor - In the Case of Bass
3. Kompulsor - Analyze This
I've been producing for half-a-year. We can discuss the methodologies in some detail. You can drop me an e-mail at [email protected] .
But my general advice is to listen to a lot of hard trance. For example I have all the recent volumes of Dean's TTF and DJ Networx. After you've listened to A LOT of it, you'll start to have a feel for this style and which bits should go where. That's how I started.
It also helps if you know a bit of music theory. Do you play guitar? Personally I can't write or read scores, but I play guitar and I understand all the important chords and chord progressions. Listen to a track like DJ Dean - Play It Hard and Kenny Takito - All Systems Go, and break it down in terms of chords. German trance is structurally simple. Learn common chord progressions and you'll be on your way. |

I know my techno man. Ive been listening to tunnel trance force & DJ Networx religiously since 96 or 97 when i found their cd in a shop here in Toronto...Now i have them all.. I grew up with techno way before hard trance. it wasnt like i heard hard trance and i was amazed by what some of them could pull off. I was already worshipping the underground all throughout the 90's........
I have a massive collection of hard trance music...
Listening doesnt give me any ideas because most of what those producers are accomplishing is effects and reverb and stuff i have no thought on either way because my mind hasnt gone through that process yet..I havent seen it and im not sure what its all about.
That'd be cool if you could give me some guidance. id definately ask.. im not too proud or anything. I wanna learn all i can so that i can sound like the songs in my head oneday.
Ill post this than ill download your track........
And thanx 4 the offer... u gotta help me out buddy!!!! I have HardTrance you would never believe how good it is. Just give me a boost out of the trap im in and i'lll hook you up with some traxx you havent ever heard before but wish you had've sooner. |

The best advice i can give is too read as many posts here as you can, especially the sticky posts. I don't know if you have read them or not but there is so much valuable information that not too would be criminal :)
Also if you aren't a member of www.samplecity.net then i would highly recommend registering, (i think most people here would agree with me). I've only recently joined and there is loads of information there. Forums dedicated to tips and tricks, softsynths, pretty much anything you can think of is covered.
Between these two sites you'll be sorted for along time. |

I've been producing for about 11 years now, 7 of which have probably been focused on trance and hard trance (done everything from hip-hop to jungle to hardcore). Got multiple releases under my belt and I'm currently releasing with a new German label, Audiocode.
Start with the sounds, not the sequences... and be patient!

Holy ...
You or your friend was the producer behind Positronic Brain? They were great!! And i never knew that project was from Toronto. I always thought they were outta the UK.
I spent a good portion of the 90's looking around Toronto for any vinyls or cd's by them. But i had no luck. And my life still feels incomplete not having at least 1 or all of their traxx.
Their was a song called "Shine" which was nice..and one just before it that i liked the most but i have forgotton the name now. |

Wow that was a long time ago!!! :D That was before I joined up with him. Tarl was working for Quality Records in TO at the time (they've since folded). He actually got nominated for a Juno for the Positronic Brain track "Mystify". Just goes to show ya, you don't need to be in Europe to produce quality hard trance... However releasing it and getting it out there tends to be a little more challenging on this side of the pond. ;)
