Pitch Control / Key Correction

After reading some of the Basic Mixing tutorial on www.recess.co.uk -- a well advocated site by many forum members -- I've come up with a question. In his advise for beat matching, he talks about altering the pitch of the song to help match up with the other tune. I had been using the Key Correction on my decks, which to my understading was like a master tempo. It made more sense to me that speeding up or slowing down a songs tempo would match a beat better than merely altering the pitch. Am I wrong in thinking this? What's the right method?

Thanks.

um, i dunno what key correction is on the decks
but when you slow tempo (on the pitch control)
you're lower/raising pitch, and Slowing/Speeding up tempo accordingly.

the faster the record plays, the higher the key or pitch.
the two are correlated directly.
