| this might be a n00b question but i will ask it anyways. my receiver pumps out 100W per channel. i have a pair of 15W speakers that i wanted to hook up as alternate speakers. if i hook these up will they blow once i turn it on or will they be safe if i keep the main volume down? i hope that they will be loud on a low volume setting but will be fine. let me know. thanks |

I think it's pretty obvlious that when you send to much power to a speaker that it's not 'safe'
I blew 2 speakers up like that about 5 years ago, just like that, they just kept humming al the time from then on. |

i agree with that. but can i hook these up and have them not blow if the volme never gets too loud? i guess what i am asking is this...
does the receiver always put out 100W per channel or is it 100W when the volume is at max and say 25W when the volume is up 1/4 of the way? |

No, the 100W is a maximum value.
The 100W is actually The voltage multiplied by the power. But, for some frequencies, the amp will send a higher voltage to the speakers than for other freqs, so actually, you're never sure howmuch power reaches your speakers... So, ya, 100W is WAAAAY too much. |

| I hope for all safety that your receiver has replaceable fuses.... I once put too much bass through my receiver at once and the speakers survived the but the fuses blew....wow that was fun to find old fuses. |

| Yeah, I blew mine once too, It was also a rather old amp, but, i trew the stupid thing away, it was like 40W amp, so, i'm not gonna buy new fuses for that. |
