That's slightly different, the Jews in ghettos originally thought that they could live with the Nazis as long as they didn't bother them. The Judenrats were set up so the Jews could govern themselves and interact with the Nazi officials to hear their pleas. They established their own police force to maintain order in the ghettos. Yes there were a few believing they could gain favors or special treatment from the Nazis by collaborating, most however were simply trying to survive like the rest of them, or performing the same jobs they had before being thrust into the ghettos. Some of the leaders of the Judenrat had some understanding of what was happening to people submitted to Nazi quotas but they thought that by sacrificing the few they could save the majority. It's really quite sad. Few could have ever believed what the Nazis had in store for them in the Endlosung. |
