HeHe, Nat, you're gonna love this. I guess God decided I should be punished for laughing at you all weekend. On my way back today I had the brilliant idea of driving through Algonquin (the route you took to OM) rather than the other route I took to get there. I thought it would be nice to take the "scenic" route.

Literally seconds after I officially entered Algonquin, I go around a curve and guess what decided to cross the road. The stupid deer didn't even run across, it walked, which gave me no chance. I swirled the car as best I could to avoid it but ended up hitting it in the ass with the right corner of my car. The deer broke a leg (I think). It sat on the ground for a bit but then ran into the forrest on 3 legs. (I was actually amazed at how fast it could run on only three legs, much faster than I can hop on one :))

Everyone in the car was fine and the car was driveable so we got back OK. I felt pretty bad about it until locals told me that they hit them all the time. Until then I thought they were thinking "stupid city boy...". Good thing I had just slowed down because of lower speed limit, could have been much much worse if I was going faster. Damn, hope my insurance doesn't go up because of this...

Needless to say, after getting the police report, I said " the scenic route" and turned around.

By the way, for everyone who's never been, OM is absolutely amazing. This was my second and I will never miss one if they keep being so awesome.

you TO people really arent used to the wildlife are you?

Ive got deer in my yard all winter long, porcupines live across the street. Theres a million rabbits(or was until the Coyotes got them) and well..actually we havent had a skunk in a while.

I have come close to hitting a moose once (up near Fort MacMurray aka 'moose country' tonnes of moose up there, lots get hit and they destroy Mac Trucks and the like) nearly hit an elk once(in BC, between Nelson and Kaslo where corners are marked backwards), and come close to a bunch of Does and one buck(all over the place).

you learn to avoid them. Aim for the back end. An animal will NEVER spook backwards, always run forwards.

Nat. Ill call you tomorow, its my day off!

at least youre alive.

pfft.. Fort MacMurray.. then you should see some of the wildlife that we have running around here up in Scarborough .. some of them even carry guns !

OMG Hooman! I'm glad you're ok! But how could u even THINK about entering that park after my warning??? The only person who will have a bigger field day w/this story more than i will is......u guessed it: halo20! he won't stop laughing for a week, i'm sure!
(we miss u John!)

Good thing u made a police report while u were there. I got a little grief from the authorities & insurance for not making a report from there ((tho we tried-we stopped at an OPP station after it happened, & no one came to the door or answered their emergency phone). They need to make sure you're not drunk when the accident occurs. Glad u wised-up abd went another way back home. ASide from safer, its much shorter.

I have a '1/2 cast' running the entire length of my arm. it'll come off in a week & be replaced w/a more sturdier one (that can be signed). I had some abrasions from the airbag as well that need to heal 1st.

Hooman, apparently, your insurance doesn't go up if u actually hit the animal. ty for me, my premiums will go up since i didn't.

You gotta be kidding me, that's ridiculous. Does this mean you're a better driver if you hit the damn thing than if you avoid it??

Oh, and yes, Jon'll love this. :)
