I purchase my first tables the other day, and I am guessing that since they are actually rather nice tables, they don't come with cartridges/styluses. Is this true? If so, whats a good pair to start with? I don't really have a ton of cash to blow on these things, as I already spend alot of money and want to start buying vinyl. What is everyones take on this?

numarks are cack. basiclly anything made by numark is just look at there headphones lol. when your buying needles dont go crap products. the stanton 500 al's have basiclly been industry standard in australia since they came out. but now the ortofon concords are popping up more and more. and plus the numarks look aswell :P

Becareful when you make such a false statement, you're liable to get flamed by others!!! Numark as a company has come a long way from making only entry level products to professional quality products used by many DJs, Producers, and clubs. Take their ttx1 turntables which is the only turntable that has matched technics performance and some say even surpassed technics performance. Even Numark Carts are pretty darn good, like the Phat Track concordes or the CS1, or the Carl Cox signature series. Don't forget their Axis 8 and Axis 9 CD decks which are excellent and lets not forget numark mixers which are great especially at the price that they are at and they are also powered by Alesis.

as far as carts go, you said not to buy crap products, but yet you recommended 500al and ortofons? 500al are throw aways after a weeks worth of use, and ortofons aren't worth half of what they are priced at!!!
for entry level carts I suggest at the very minimum from entry level to pro-level:

Stanton 505SKII
Shure M35 series either -c, -x, or -s
Stanton 680HP
Shure M44G or M44-7 if you plan on scratching as well
Shure White Labels--strongly recommend these even if you are a begginer, you won't need to buy any other carts for as long as you DJ, the styli is very hard to break, but if you'll ever need a replacement, it is very cheap.
Shure V15VxMR at $325.00 each , :D :D :D
