Total BULLSHIT

Starting today 6/26/2003, the music industry will begin sueing individuals for downloading music.
It has been all over the news, they will be able to get your IP address and then they will be allowed by the government to get your name and address.

This is not a JOKE, lawsuits are expected to be in the millions. It is predicted, that an out of court settlment will be between 10 and 20 thousand dollars.

The music industry is very serious about this.

This sucks huge balls.

Theres been like 3 threads on this already. Either way I still maintain that downloading mp3s is stealing, and if they want to prosecute me than so be it.

if it wasn't for mp3s, trance wouldn't be as 'big' as it is today

man, there's just so many fish in the sea, how're they gonna sue everyone?
gatecrasher
It does seem like a very difficult thing to do, there are so many people all over the world downloading from peer to peers and wot about the laws in other countries, do the RIAA have the rite to ride rough shot throughout??

Are you ing stupid?

well at the end of the day if there is a mp3 on your harddrive and you dont own a vinyl of it or a cd then it is illegal, and you are liable for prosicuation...

but tbh its not gonna afect the trance music we like, only the cheesy music and main streem music thats in the top 40 etc where the $$$ is for all the record lables, no need for any tranceaddicts to panic yet

Jon

p.s there is a few other threads about this...

Well technically if youre a law abiding citizen then you shouldnt have a problem with this, but if youre a law breaking stealing coniving pimple on societies backside like most of us, then you probably merely have issues about getting caught.

I say to you, and to any aspiring pirates out there, if ou dont want to get caught then be smarter about it, they have to be able to track you before they can sue you and there are hundreds of ways to hide online
Shudder
i guess they have ways of tracking dynamic ips then...
AlphaZonE
Im positive it was said that for every mp3 you have you will be fined about £1,500 or something like that.

most isp's will log these, and a time.

for instance ntl, a uk isp have a 1gig cap on their broadband service, although they only really enforce it if theres 3 or more times in 14 days when you go over 1 gig, and each time the cable modems turned off a new ip is asigned, so they must keep logs to do this

Any of those f*ckers try and prosecute me i'll give em a real reason to sue me, ie. to have my pc surgically removed from their asses.

This is complete wank. I download mp3's all the time BUT i also go out and buy the vinyl (of course for every mp3 i dont have the vinyl) but christ if it wasnt for mp3s i think we'd all be so outta the loop when it comes to whats hot and not.
