That explains how they sound a little similar.

'Godfather of Trance'?

If anyone can claim that, it would only be BT.

It's like Michael Jackson calling himself 'the king of pop'! I don't like his style for the usual reasons: Weak sets, low energy, and dated tracks. Not even in the same category as Tiesto, Van Buuren, PvD, etc...

Im going to that big Seattle Massive this weekend to check out lawrence. I have seen him before, but I am hoping he will be a little better. He is good, you just have to be in the right mind set. He isin't uplifting or anything... real dark and progressive.

And I would definitly think that Kimball Collins is the US best trance dj not lawrence.

Yeah, Kimball Collins rubs off on me better than Lawrence. I didn't mean to start a flame war, I just wondered if Lawrence was really someone I should respect or if it was just some creative marketing on behalf of the website.

Not the godfather of trance, but he is known to the US as the "Trance Messiah". CL isn't for everyone. He spins a US hard trance/house sound that won't be appreciated by those who are into dreamy/Euro trance. You have to see him in person to appreciate his music and his CDs are in no way a true representation of the man's capabilities. Listen to "Temptation" if you want a real taste of what he can do.

I saw him at Icon in Orlando a couple weeks ago too. It was alright. the crowd seemed to like him...not my type of trance particularly. Im not crazy for vocal (wanting them song after song) but I didnt hear one vocal the whole night. I think you need at least a little to break the monotony of just beats. Also it seemed like he kept a steady bpm the whole time...which was fairly fast. Seemed like he didnt throw in any breakdowns or slower songs to give the people a break. It was worth seeing him though.

I love raging hard trance, like:

DJ Scot Project
Hennes & Cold
Mario Larouche
Mark Spoon
DJ Tatana
DJ Mind X
Lady Dana
Lab 4

Hard Trance = Christopher Lawrence?

Hmmm... No!

United States of Trance isn't bad....but a better example of Chris Lawrence's work would be Trilogy....it's not bad....you kinda have to like hard Trance to enjoy his music...

It looks like most of us are on the same boat with this topic.

Christopher lawrence champions a certain sound that I particularly DO NOT LIKE, in other words, HE IS ANTI-EUROPEAN TRANCE. I don't understand who he's trying to fool because one thing is for sure, YOU CAN'T LIE TO THE EARS, WHAT YOU HEAR IS WHAT YOU HEAR NO IF, AND'S OR BUTS ABOUT IT.

If you listen to a ferry corsten interview in www.grooveradio.com, he's asked "what music influenced you?"

his reply was, "very 80's stuff, I LOVE ITALO DISCO OF THE 80'S",

You ask christopher lawrence the same question and his reply would be "HUH, WHAT'S ITALO DISCO?

you always hear domestic (mainly US) dj/producers dogging on how european trance is so cheesy but you never hear the dutch, german, italian dogging anyone because THEY KNOW WHO'S ON TOP.

Well, I like Christopher Lawrence alot as a DJ, his one of the most respected TRANCE DJ's in the USA, and well, maybe the GODFATHER of trance in the USA since he really defends the sound, and has no chame on be called a trance DJ and so on.. his 100 % trance so..
But well, the only time I saw him was at the ULTRA fest here in MIAMI, at the GATECRASHER tent, he wasent playing no low energy, but vise versa.. all pounding high energy trance, mostly unknown tracks, but good indeed .. not the kinda sound that comes from europe though, but still , very good high energy trance he did there.. everyone was mad dancing..;) :D :p
