Hello peeps,
My friend MAY have a bit of a situation on her hands very soon.
She is travelling to Las Vegas today and will be staying there for 7 weeks. No problem you may think. However, her UK passport expires in TWO WEEKS, which she found out yesterday. This morning, she got through Heathrow's Check in with no problems :stongue: , but I'm thinking, as US Airport security is better than ours, that they will deport her straight back upon noticing the expiration date!
I think if she can talk her way through it, then they'll let her stay for 2 weeks tops.
What will happen?? :wtf: |

Her passport is still valid for the time of travel.
If she applied to renew it it would start from the date of expiry, unless she said she lost the old on in which case she'd probably have to pay an extra fee to get it replaced.
It's a valid passport, she's allowed to travel. |

| just tell her to call the british embassy in the usa, they can renew her passport. she just has to go to them and get all that crap taken care of, which might take awhile. |

Ignore everything I just said, I thought you said she was only going for 7 days not weeks :)
She might be lucky with US passport control if she doesn't let on she's staying longer than the passport is valid for. But she'll have probs getting back into the UK unless she can get it renewed.
They might sort out a temporary visa or something in the US while the British embassy sort out a new passport though. |

Some overseas countries have an immigration requirement for a passport to remain valid for a minimum period after entry to that country. The holding of a British passport does not exempt the holder from complying with these requirements. If your passport is in its final year of validity, you are advised to check the requirements of the country of destination before you make your final travel plans. Any questions should be addressed to their consulate or embassy. Your travel agent willl also be able to give you advice on this matter.
You do not have to wait until your passport expires before you renew it. If you renew your passport before it expires, any unexpired period of validity rounded down to the nearest whole month (minimum of one month, maximum of nine months) will be added to your new passport. This period is calculated from the point at which your new passport is authorised for issue, not from date of application. You therefore need to apply at least six weeks before your passport expires to get this benefit.

hehe oh dear! I told her yesterday to go to BA Airlines Customer Service and postpone the flight til Tuesday, and then go to the UK passport office on the monday to get it renewed. Then I got a txt this morning saying everything was fine, and immediately i was like ", u silly girl!"
Well if she gets to LV, then I'll email her and tell her to get her arse down to the nearest British Embassy. Erm, is there even one in Las Vegas??!! :nervous: |

they did for me in Taiwan last summer .... passport was expiring two months afterwards
new rule was : if your passport will expire in less then six months you pay for a visa ( that I learned once I landed there and was trying to go through customs )
so I had to pay 150 something US dollars .... for a visa that I really didn't need |
