Yup...just a bunch of old people once again trying to shut down raves. Once again it is assumed that everyone who goes to a rave does a bunch of ecstasy and dies. If these politicians and other people would get their heads out of their asses, they might see that probably more ecstasy is done in the damn suburbs than at raves. Hey...if people want to go to a rave and risk their life by taking ecstasy that is their choice and they should have the right to that choice. If they die, it is their own fault. As for raves in general, very few people are actually hurt by them so I don't see the problem that people have with them.

How's that for an opinion? :D

Yeah. that is so true dood.
I hate politicians, who sit in a f*cking office their entire lives. What do they know about raves anyway, and what makes them think that people only take drugs at raves? They only want simple solutions. It's not illegal to jump off a damn cliff and kill your self, but it is illegal to kill your self with drugs. It's exactly the same here in Sweden, the most simple action is to forbid everything.
They claim that the junkies should get blamed, for ruining for the 90% who just want to party, and get punished at the same time, but their punishment is what they are doing with their health, which by the way is their own choice, and other people may as well stay out of their business. It's not like they are killing people or robbing convenient stores, or hurting the society in any other way. They are just taking drugs. The politicians are just making enemies with the crowd, and the crowd is blamed for that, and rave is then also violent, which gives electronic music a bad reputation.
There is in fact a huge crowd of people in Sweden who listen to trance, but parties (outside clubs, where they btw. only play dance & house) are not allowed, and you have to leave the contry to go to descent events.

AMEN man this subject has got me so bummed out its not funny there trying to take away one of the very few things we enjoy in life
DJ_Shockwav
once again, the media is reporting without all the facts about the "evil all-night dance parties known as raves"

i think a journalist should actually atted one before writing the story, and get all the sides to the story

i hope that this doesn't spring up into canada... although in calgary the promoters and the city are seeing eye to eye on what can and can't be done and
even city alderman have shown up at raves to see what exactly is going on, and i like that, they take an active role in the scene in calgary, and not rely on shoddy reporting from idiots who probably have never even been in a club, never mind a rave
FASTDJMP3
Shockwav trust me the Canadien scene is in danger , just look at Swirl that was cancelled because the government said "drugs are sold there"

hmm....well it is nice to see someone is defending ravers

but those old politicins piss me off, all they do is sit in their offices and get fat.....

yea

first of all dis is nothing new...im seeing and hearing these kinds of stories almost everyday...ya dos en politics dont know wat their doin ne more..i guess they dont have ne thing else 2 do, but complain about raves...but drugs on raves aren't new either...drugs have been everywhere...i mean look at da hippies from da 60's and 70's..dos ppl were actually da first generation of ravers, not dat im sayin there were listening 2 trance and so on...maybe they were but politians have been fighting 4 a long time now...clubs have been shutdown as well...Home in London was shut down of da drug accidents dat happened there, politians need 2 focus on en da hole situation not just raves. raves r a small part. if there so en anxious about raves why wont they en first start from en grabbing all da drug-dealers dat smog in da drugs, so den maybe there wont be en no drugs at all and all da raves will be without drugz...dats wat politians need 2 think about ;)

i think traceDJ your right. there are more drugs in the suburbs that at most raves. i live in a small upscale city. its an island with about 10,000 people living on it. about 650 kids go to our high school. a day doesnt go by without someone asking me if i wanna buy some weed, shrooms, acid, and if it comes around, e. its usually easy to buy beer underage, but here its easier to get any drug i want that it is to find someone to buy us beer. people just kind of brush the suburbs off like "oh they are rich people dont worry about them" and then they end up targeting raves and other things that old politicians have stereotyped as bad.

I dont know if you guys remember this from a thread a long time ago... but a guy named Aviston made this comment as to why politicians in the U.S. are nailing raves, and why they dont try to pay attention to where the drug use is really heavy (like in the ghettos):

quote:
Originally posted by Aviston The government 1) only attacks drug use when there isn't a better war to fight elsewhere, and 2) doesn't care if people in the ghetto are using drugs.

The bottom line is, white surburban kids from middle class America are the ones going to raves and doing drugs. The government will not stand for their beloved white kids doing drugs.

Just thought it would be an interesting read for you all.

Here is my opinion. I think the government goes too overboard sometimes. But also the government has a duty to enforce it's laws in paticular, drugs. Drugs in my mind are bad, in toronto we have had too many problems with them. But I think governments are too strict. Governments should encourage "Legal Raves" (Ones with permits and ) because they rake in lots of money for cities in terms of tourism and also tax dollars. Now about the illegal raves, they should be quashed cause they are not legal. I think governments look at the whole rave culture and think, oh no here comes drug addicts doing e and . Do governments realize that 95% of people who go to raves are clean and . I think they should spend more time dealing with more important issues like homelessness, murders and stuff then cracking down on kids going to have fun. Just remember if politians crack down on raves and you cannot yet vote, remember there parties and when you can vote, send a message. In toronto, the city banned raves, so 15000 people showed up in metro square to protest it and weeks later, raves were allowed.
