Canada's longest-running blues festival enters its 18th year. This year's sizzling international and Canadian performers will delight audiences with rhythms ranging from acoustic roots to electric blues.
This weekend explores the range of what is the blues, with artists like Corey Harris, Fruteland Jackson and Jack de Keyzer as well as film selections at Reely the Blues.
Throughout the weekend, audiences can also enjoy the Reely The Blues film series at the Studio Theatre (July 5 - 4 to 8 p.m. and July 6 - 1 to 3 p.m.). Programmed by the Toronto Blues Society featured films include a blistering hour of hard-driving Texas blues great Freddie King from his 1966 performances on The Beat! and at a 1973 concert in Sweden. Al Green is captured at the height of his secular career in an extremely rare hour-long television performance. The July 6 screening includes more of the best of TV Gospel Time - where African-American gospel greats from the 1950s and 1960s performed on a weekly Chicago-based television show.
