hahhhahaahaha
you know how it works?
The "im feeling lucky" button automatically forwards you to the first search query on the list that comes up.
So basically, after that search for "weapons of mass destruction"....it automatically goes into the first search result.
the result in this case is http://www.coxar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
so it wasnt created by the google authors or anything heh. |

Usually, "I'm feeling lucky" redirects you to the most "relevant" page of your search query.. The relevance factor is determined automatically by Google engine using god knows which algorithms.. In this case, I'm sure Google designers had something to do with the page being displayed... but then again who knows... |

We know how it works :p. It uses linear algebra to calculate the term-by-document matrix. It uses a row-vector containing the user's query and then perform matrix multiplications with the term-by-document matrix. The resulting column vector will contain numbers that represent website relevancy. There is also a web crawler which searches the net and populates the term by document matrix. It's very easy, very fast and really kewl. Of course their algorithm is a bit more complex. Ah, the beauty of computer science :). And no this is not how google works http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html. ;) |

Very interesting read that explains a lot about how google's "ranking" system works. There's also a "proxy" that allows you to use Google's search engine anonymously and cookie-free. I learned a lot of things I never wanted to know about Google from that site...
The link was pretty funny by the way. ;) |

What's the point of this website again? To warn us about privacy issues? I don't understand those people... If you are too worried about your privacy, you shouldn't be using Internet at all. For all you know, any website you go to records your IP and the fact that you've been there. Should I be afraid ??? |

LOL I can just imagine the size of the matrix google must have if they've implemented it's search engine based on our CS370 course...
Damn, what a waste of time that course was ! |

*sigh* don't be such a smartass...
Since you had already started to speculate on how that page got to the top (the "I'm feeling lucky" spot), I thought I would direct you to that site, which shows in the FIRST FEW links EXACTLY how that type of thing can be accomplished on Google.
Try READING what's on it... it explains in large part how google actually works. It is NOT just about privacy, and before you get skeptical, get informed. |
