.msm ----> .mp3

I just d/lded some music files but they arent in mp3 files they are in the extension .msm. It plays in windows media player but u can also play it in winamp. Does anybody know the difference this type of file and mp3? Does it matter? And if possible how can i conver .msm to .mp3 files. Thanks. Btw, im on windows 2000 Pro.

just rename the file to mp3 instead of msm

i tried that but it still wont change to .mp3 for some reason.

You can always use winamp's disk writer as the output, and "record" the sound as a wav file on your hard drive. Then use an mp3 encoder and turn the wav into an mp3. The command line version of LAME is just around 500kB, and the interface is simple.

I guess that'll work, but your gonna lose audio quality that way. Obviously some compression has occured (unless the file is 50 meg) and by RE-encoding it your gonna compress the compressed!

All MP3s under 192 kb/s SOUND out of phase (but aren't neccessary).
Your just gonna introduce more artifacts.

Sorry mate, I don't have any answers for you there. But there must be a better way, hmmmm.... go out an buy it!! lolz:haha:
