I agree with you, TDR did some of the most eye catching and creative designs, e.g Discotech Gen Album etc, but since the beginning of this year they have gone for this different style which may be different just looks, rushed, unprofessional (like they had a 2yr old in the office with some crayons)

There are some real good designs out there, In my opnion, that thing up there *points up the thread* is not.

:D :D

designers republic used to be mint until the guy that was any good left. i used to ing love getting the new crasher album.. every time u opened it u would find a little thing u hadnt noticed before.. all the little text and funny doojobs..

but now it is a ing joke.. that isnt design, thats just some twat arsing about in paint. i could do it.

Michael is the guy who left, he runs a site called designbybuild. Top bloke.

But i still disagree. This isnt childs play design at all.

Deliberate, unintentional, complicated to do or easy the only thing that matters is that flyer just looks plain bad! Nice pink though, that's a plus in my book.

that kind of design, altho it looks easy, is pretty hard to do properly. Its easy to do badly tho, just open up photoshop and draw.

The whole 80's throwback punk/electro thing is actually pretty relevant for trance - its like a grown up design-take on cyber, as in the cyber u wear, not the cyber u listen to. Which for me anyway has the GC feel about it. You see, trance visuals and graphics are REALLY REALLY crap on the whole. Dance and house have got it pretty slick, but they just use photos of models, so its not exactly hard. Hed Kandi has got it fkin sorted. Their stuff owns - it defines their genre perfectly.

GC's older cd releases, all by tDR, have been good solid design pieces, like the global sound system cd, disco-tech etc but they really just are extensions of tDR's portfolio - the new stuff, from Residet 2 and the flyers we get here in london are a step away into a more original direction for them.

I think it looks but this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i agree with. Around the turn of the year the style of the flyers etc changed, away from the digital/technological designs that had corresponded with the cyber look and feel of gatecrasher since 98/99, toward the dirty look which linked better with the change in the ppl who went to the club especially the try hard style!

Ok i might upset some folk by disagreeing with you here so i apologuise upfront.

Firstly GC's Creative and Brand ID is produced By TDR, now being a designer myself i hold a lot of respect for these guys mainly due to them having a huge positive impact on the design scene.

Now for me personally i adore what they have done with GC, taking away all this cheesy garbage you see on the electronic music scene. I wont go into more depth about this as you'll all wanna punch me very hard on the nose.

Ive said this a hundred times before; the trance scene contains the worse sense of design and creative thinking ive seen out of all the other genres of music there is. Now hopefully once myself and Magnasoma finish Mike Shiver's and Ronski Speed's sites people might be able see how much trance is needing good design. Im sorry for going on abit here and i know that i sound like im blowing smoke up mine and Mag's ass BUT ive been a designer for 4 years now and have got pretty far up the ladder and yes... it i will say it. I know what im talking about.

We should all be grateful for TDR and what they have done with GC.

Again sorry for pissing anyone off.

Yours truely
Christophe:D

Didnt know it was you doing Ronski Speed website:conf: , though send us a link as soon as its done.

I agree with tu_face, the older GC stuff was more interesting than it is now because there was so much detail. TDR design typified the whole scene & has obviously been copied by most trance events (GK, Peach, Passion etc.). At first i didnt like the new designs they came out with as they look rushed (even though thats the intention), but its starting to grow on me, & the Force ten bits not bad on this flyer. + Its better that theyre evolving the design identity of GC rather than deleting the old one & starting fresh with the new childish style for the opening of Crasher.

Random points in a random order.
Like the pink though.:D
