man I wish I could listen to music at work that'd be ill but cause of the phone orientation of the job it's impossible.

The thing I've hated about planes is:

A) My life is in the hands of the pilot. If he's crazy/decides to go suicide, or just sucks at flying, m life is in his/her hands. A car is in MY control, and even if other people driving around me can take me out, I still have that control factor and may be able to avoid something like that by reacting to it...

B) If a part of a plane s up, such as a wing, engine, wiring (spark), etc., you're most likely dead. With a car, no big deal, you just pull over. As long as it's not your tire blowing while you're going at 150km/h+ while doing a turn...

C) With a car, I'm grounded. With a plane, I'm not. Need I say more?

Don't get me wrong, I love planes, they are amazing machines. I've taken many flights in my life, anywhere from an hour long to 12+ hours long. And every time, before taking off, I've prayed to God to let me land safely at the destination.

P.S. I hate driving on highways, worse thing ever. I never go on useless roadtrips with my family, I always stay home. Half the reason is the highway. Some of you might think I'm nuts and that I'm not living my life cuz of risks, but no. I know life is full of risks, but why take unnecessary ones? There's so much stuff I haven't done in my life that I don't want that chance taken away because of (for example) a stupid 2-day roadtrip.

So you want to be a pilot, eh?

Well...there is always the military, but if you go civilian, there are a couple routes. A: Flying Degree at a University...the route I took. i.e. U. North Dakota, E. Riddle, Parks...etc. I went to UND, and majored in Air Transport. Did all my ratings with the school, top notch equipment/instructors. Tuition, Room/Board is very reasonable, but flight costs are elevated...alot. Riddle prolly cost even more, since it's private, while UND is public (and they have a good hockey team). Other schools may cost a little less...but expect the bill for EVERYthing to run +/- 100K.

The other civil route is to get your 4 year in anything (that's all airlines want is a 4 year...could be in basket weaving for all they care), and then do your flying through a Fixed Based operator...you know the local place at the airport. Definately less expensive, but probably less organized, less fancy equipment.

After you have your ratings you can flight instruct, and move up...maybe fly boxes and get multi engine time, and then meet requirements for airlines. Typical Entry Reqs are 1000-1200 Total Time, w/ 500 multi.

Is it easy...well if you like doing it, it's easy. :) Of course you study your tail off, are tested constantly, and then there is the FAA...sigh...always trying to take your ticket it seems...even though they are just doin their job. They uphold the rules...it's not like a cop letting you off with a freebie...it's serious business. And once you get to the airlines...you still study, you still get tested...over and over and over and over.

So, I did 4 years of college and 1 year of instructing..on my path to airline flying...I got in when the getting was good though. Right now, you are looking at an extra couple years of instructing and maybe some corp/box flying until you'll get the chance to go airline...hiring is slow, and remember you are now competing with people that are already airline pilots that lost their job. However, by the time you get your 4 year...things could be back on the up and up..and you could be in like flynn...that's the airline industry for you..it's a crap shoot.

Of course...you could be an accountant, wow....that's two different worlds. lol.

Grounded as in 'getting hit by lightning'?

If so, not really a big deal in an aircraft (in terms of effect on you/the plane)...everything discharges. You don't get electricuted and the plane doesn't explode. You may have to reset a generator, or blow off a panel, but other than the fact that it's REALLY LOUD AND BRIGHT..and scares the out of you...you just keep motoring along.

Been hit twice, and heard/seen 100 more...:eyes: :eyes: :eyes: and we're all still ticking.

Oh...and the lightning ball floating down the isle...now that's freaky :nervous: :nervous: :eyes: :nervous:

Not bashin ya at all btw...flying just isn't for some people and I understand...I personally hate sitting in the back since I'm used to driving them...and I hate things like rollercoasters since I'm not in control...course that's what I'm trained to do...'control'

Haha, I didn't mean electrically, but anyway...

Well, I love flying when you get views like that of your sig, it's all trancy, you know... Maybe if I was flying the plane, and knew I could always eject safely, I would be more ok with it. But it's mainly the fact that I'm not in control of the plane myself... (and the plane screwing up and you being dead, regardless of your piloting skills).

I did in fact take the picture...and although I wish it was some hot babe, or the girl next door...it's simply my office...and I have to think I have the best corner office view in the world. The view changes constantly, and it's never the same two days in a row. Sure there is work involved...sometimes, but it's hard to believe I get paid to fly people around. Kinda like spinning music for a club I guess...they hand you a check to have fun!

So, is there anyone else out there that has an office with a view? :D :D :D

I am a groundpilot and boy do I love my job!

what r u talking about? the bad wheather and turbulence is the WAAAAy funiest part of flying:D My mom works at SAS so we fly regularly, i actually think that flying is one of the major fun things in life =D like when on the runway just before takeoff when the engines rev up and (if ur pilot aint a major wuzz =P) the pilot gives it a lot of gas and u get pushed back into the seat... just LOVELY!
