CD Burning issues....help!

ok guys i need some help.....I have a plextor external CD writer that I use for burning my stuff. I have a few divx movies that I would like to burn to CDs. The problem is that these files are on average 750 MB, larger than what a 700 MB CD can hold. Is there anything I can do to compress the files maybe without loosing any clarity or quality of the movies? Is there a way to make the files smaller so that they can fit onto a CD? thanks...

ZIP them maybe? Never tried to myself...

Ya either zip or rar them, or use a file splitter and split it into two? Than burn on two cds.

You can buy larger cd's (800MB last time I checked, which was about 12 months ago :D), but they're apparently hard to find and your burner must support them.
Apart from that, try winRAR to RaR them up, or split the movie into two and burn them separately
AFAIK, overburn wont burn an extra 50MB, but hey, ive never tried that much, so yeah, could work :conf: :D

are you sure they're divx and not just .mpg's? divx files are usually encoded to 699-700 MB.
mpg files can be larger on your hard disk, but you can burn them in VCD format, which allows more data (actually, it's just less error protection than on a "regular" data cd).

U cant get an extra 50mb by overburning :rolleyes:

I think rarring that ****** is ur best option
sash
you could split them into smaller files, so it'll span over two discs

GigaRec, Plextor Premium

Compressing that file with WinRAR or WinZIP will not do it, cause the DivX codec itself is a compression tool. It just has the advantage that you can see the movie in real time without the need to decompress it before. So I think you must split that file into two parts. I would recommend the tool "Virtual Dub". It is very easy to handle.

a little explaination for splitting movies with VirtualDub:

1. file->open video file (chose the movie u want to split)
2. edit->set selection start
3. move the bar to the point that you want the first part to end (the bar is directly under the movie window)
4. edit->set selection end
5. video->direct stream copy
6. audio->direct stream copy
7. file->save segmented avi

The same with the 2nd part, but of course you must set selection start at the point the 1st part ended.

Done.
