*** Are they going too far this time ???? Do they really need to slap on a GST on this ??? ***
It’s going to be tough to determine who will like the huge “S.A.R.S.-Aid” concert at Downsview Park more, the fans or the government.
While hundreds of thousands of folks are expected to pack the grounds for the huge show featuring the Rolling Stones, The Guess Who, AC/DC, Rush, and others, the federal government is licking their chops at the prospect of pulling in a mountain load of G.S.T. According to critics, Ottawa will make millions more than it put up to help bring the Stones and company to the city, through the goods and services tax on ticket sales and other spending by concert-goers.
“You have to understand that, when you go to the Treasury of Canada and ask for money to do a large mega-event, the first reaction is ‘Why would we do that? That's not really a good investment.’ So initially some people didn't see the magnitude of the possibility. But once they started to understand, everybody's on side,” said Liberal M.P. Dennis Mills.
So far 450,000 tickets have been sold for the July 30th event. In preparation, organizers say they’re working around the clock, and only the best in the business are setting up the event.
Some are annoyed the feds will make money, while others are totally enthusiastic about the show, saying it will help the city, province and the country.

well...hopefully the money they make off of this will go back into the hotel/tourist industry
from what i've heard tickets are pretty cheap
and, depending on their estimates on how much they'll get back, this just may be repayment for the money they are investing into this
so it really depends on what they do with the profits
if its for another self indulgent world tour then :whip: |
