Disc error

Hello,
I have a problem with a laptop. Everytime I restart it says
A disk error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
I took it to some people and they said that the harddrive might be burned out. I was thinking of the same thing and bought a new harddrive, installed it and it's still not working. The computer found it, formatted the drive and installed windows 2k, but when I restart after the installation, the same error appears.
The computer is an IBM Thinkpad 600E, Pentium2.
Does anyone know, how to fix this? It's definately not the drive because I already changed it.

THx:)

are you using the mains powersupply or batteries?

since its fairly old (pentium 2) it could just be the harddrive controler on the laptop has broke

Well, since the computer and the battery are so old, it doesn't last much, so I have to use the powersupply.
I tried accessing the BIOS, but there's no way of doing that. If I press almost all the keys in the keyboard, i get an error and it brings me to this menu, were I can check about everything. I checked System and Harddrive and everytime the pc froze :(

Anyone have any ideas?

hmm, was gonna say suspect ram, but if it actually manages to install 2k then it cant be.. spose the ram's actually built into the computer aint it? old 1's like that usually have the kinda ram in that you cant take out.
