Suggestions for a Sample CD

I want to create a sample CD for my friends who like EDM but don't have a clue, and even to educate myself a bit :toothless
So I was thinking of mixing up a CD that would go something like this...
Deep House - Prog - Hard Prog - Trance - Uplifting
Not set in stone just an idea I had.
So what I'm asking is for those of you who have some experience in alot of genre's, could you recomend me a couple of tracks from those genre's or any other genre's in EDM. I have no problems with Trance or Prog or uplifting, but my experience is limited in Deep House, and even Hard Prog. So just gimme a list of tracks or artists that you feel define genre's...
Thanks in advance guys! :) |

well, i dont know if this really what you mean by advice, but your set idea of going from:
Deep House - Prog - Hard Prog - Trance - Uplifting
is generally the set structure of alot of DJs (not superDJs, i think more residents and such). its the most appropriate progression for an evening where the night starts out slow and the DJ has 8 hours or whatever to get everyone nice and wet.
you can find tons of examples of all these tunes, but if you're truly trying to showcase EDM, dont forget the rest of the genre! i love 4x4, but theres more too it than that. granted, it definitely couldnt fit on one CD. anyway, if its a sample CD, its important not to put something thats brand new that you like, because if you're a veteraned listener, you're ear probably prefers things a little bit off the norm.
here are some no misses from within the last year or so
Deep house
PQM - Nameless (chab 1 mix)
Junkie XL - Beauty Never Fades
Electro:
Ladytron - Playgirl (original mix)
Peaches - AAXXX (teaches of peaches mix)
Prog
Way Out West - Mindicrus (aka mind circus) (gabriel and dresden Mix)
Holden & Thompson - Nothing (any mix :D)
DnB
The Streets - Its Too Late (High Contrast Mix)
Styles of Beyond - Subculture (Dieselboy & Kaoss mix)
Breaks:
Underworld - Rez (breaks mix)
Ils - Next Level (original)
dj icey
IDM
aphex twin
Disco House
Bob Sinclair - the Beat goes on
Hard Prog
29 Palms - I dont care (pete lorimier mix) <--maybe
Yoko Ono - Yang Yang (pete rauh)
theres still GOA/PysTrance (i only know hallucinogen from like 10 years ago), Tribal House (little louie vega), UK Garage
just my two cents, i'm sure others can help out.
i think you need to do more than one sample CD
cheers :D |
