i agree, they have shown that they can not be trusted. giving into N. Koreas requests and games would bring down the credibility of any nation (US) or organization (UN) who decides not to stand up to the threat.

I see where this stance is coming from...negotiating with the North Koreans is futile. But, I'd still choose diplomacy, no matter how pointless, over dropping the bomb.

i agree, even though it may be very difficult, i believe that peace can always be achived diplomatically.

I'm not arguing war  ... I'm saying no more concessions. If this isn't the closest example to Hitler's posturing and Chamberlain's blatant policy of appeasement I don't know what is. The fact remains that we gave into N. Korea's demands in 94 ... look how far it got us ... now N. Korea wants more, go figure.

And no, unfortunately, sometimes peace cannot be achieved diplomatically.

Maybe if we give the Koreans the Sudetenland, they'll be happy...

A YEAR LATER

Okay...we'll give them Czeckoslovakia, and South Korea...but wait! we can't give them South Korea. Anyone have a plan? Sure! Let's wage imaginary war on them!!

DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO ASK!!!!:D

EDIT: <---------------------You see this face? 'Nuff said!

Woohoo N. Korean diplomacy!

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle....storyID=3104812

C'mon now ... they only wish to remilitarize the Ruhr valley. That's not so bad. Once they get that everybody will be happy!

Possibly the 4 most tragic, ironic words ever uttered in the 20th century: "Peace in our time."

kudos to you if you know who and when ... a cookie if you don't even have to look it up :D

This has everything to do with N. Korea's attempts to blackmail the world into getting what it wants.

tru say .. my brother in Boston brought this up as well. he feels like what N. Korea is doing is kinda like extortion. China doesn't seem to place too much importance on this issue since DPRK seems to be more of a threat to their main economic rivals Japan and SK. let's hope all this new diplomacy works out ..

btw. i really hate DPRK's leader.. he has some blonde fetish too published in our local paper. :wtf:

pretty sure an NK nuclear missle launch from their mainland to australia would only be able to reach the upper top-end. population isnt very high in those areas, however the environmental impact would be massive.

i pity tha fool who attacks australia, we always got US carriers docking in our ports fairly regularly anyway, i feel safe, NK is just the schoolyard bully who can't back up his words with actions, and if by chance he can, then the entire world will come crashing down upon their lovely little government.

I would think if they have missiles that can hit the west coast of the USA, I dont know that they do, but if they did, I would think they could hit Brisbane which would be a much more attractive target than Townsville or Cairns.

i cant see it coming to that though, once the weapons are used then it is all over if the enemy has them then you die too and all bullies are at heart cowards. I would imagine the North Korean government want to live, it is like a game of chicken and they will swerve first.

It is not in N. Korea's interests to strike first. It is entirely in their interest to pose a threat to everyone - esp. the U.S. It is therefore the reason for their nukes, though they would never use them. Even in this day and age, any country with nuclear capability knows that the first bomb they drop will be their last. N. Korea or any other country for that matter would not start a nuke war for this very reason - it defies every human instinct of self-preservation. As crazy as I would like to believe Kim Jong II is, no one, not even Hitler himself would be crazy enough to drop a bomb on another country - let alone the U.S. who has the ability to blow the planet to bits.

No as Occ has stated, this is purely scare tactics. One of the few things I'm finding myself agreeing with Bush on. Ignoring this little in N. Korea is the key, while upping the pressure on it's allies like China to get them to comply with real diplomacy.

I might be inclined to agree if this were a rational ruler ... however, the guy seems to be a bit off the deep end

quote:

"Kim Jong Il was under a lot of stress," Mr Fujimoto said. "He tended to isolate himself. I heard that he kept a pistol in his room to commit suicide. When his wife found it, she was upset and scolded him.

.
.
.

Mr Fujimoto said that in December 1995 a top government official reported to Mr Kim that many people working at the country’s nuclear facilities were being taken ill, but he did not respond. At another banquet a drunk official told Mr Fujimoto. "We will protect you when war breaks out. The basement is ready, and the temperature is set at 22C."
