anyway, you guys all need to realize that trance (while awesome) is not the only music people listen to. so what if he hasn't heard of PVD or Tiesto, that doesn't mean he doesn't know good music, just that he isn't into trance.

which should have been obvious, based on his earlier track selection.

I dont think he'd be a gino, cause that gay gino radio station z 103.5 plays pvd now....so he's 'cool' with the ginos.

i once asked a local dj (who spins quite a bit of dance) 'would you be so kind to play silver bath?' and he was like 'wtf is he talking about?' when it was #1 in the belgian dance charts at that time! :whip:

Exactly. Why do so many here tend to hold this certain belief that trance is or should be so widespread and popular? I'm terribly sorry to break the news to those folks here, but trance is still not as popular on many dancefloors as some of the other genres, despite your clinging beliefs. Now I'm not going to bash trance for what it is - it certainly has its merits - and most certainly is the reason why I'm here in the first place. But some people just need to accept the fact that Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, Armin VB, or even Oakenfold are not widespread common names to the public. So while it's a true pity that the world can't be "tranced" by the likes of "Nothing But You", "Suburban Train", or "Sunburn", I think it's not that tragic an event really. You might also want to consider the fact that many trance tunes aren't terribly "dance-friendly" to the public (even in gay bars). The likes of Hip-Hop/Rap, Top40's dance (god it is aweful), and House music are what most dance bars tend to bend towards because of their consistent beats without the non-rhythmic peaks and valleys where everyone just stands still looking at each other, waiting for the beat to kick back in.

i'm going to add my two cents without reading the rest of the thread: it seems like one of the things TAs tend to like about trance is that it's NOT widespread and popular. how many people have slammed pvd for doing those motorola commercials, lamenting that he sold out to the mainstream?

personally, i'm glad that trance isn't as popular as other forms of music. we wouldn't have the opportunities to interact with the producers and djs the way we do if it were so mainstream, and you know people who like trance truly appreciate it because it's not something you hear on the radio. i don't want it to get huge, i like our little group of fans (i realize there's several million of us, but we're a small group relative to the people who like other genres).
