Absolutely. TA is full of immature, ego-inflated adolescent homophobes, but most guys in their teens go through that. A number of people who left TA in the past have come back saying they've grown up. It's natural.
Almost any guy with common sense is over the whole "fag-is-a-funny-insult" phase by twenty, unless they decide to surround themselves with some clan close-minded guys and live in a little bubble of their own design. Even then it's practically guaranteed there are closet cases. But so it goes.
It's really a shame to see that sort of thing on TA, because the electronic music scene is much the opposite. But what can you do, eh?
Anyhow, I am. Took a while to come to terms with it because I was loaded with all the fear and stereotypes we're fed (particularly in America) and had to get over them on a much deeper level than simple acceptance of others. What I guess shocked me the most is how varied and different gay people really are. I mean, I know gay republicans and what have you, very conservative. People just see the stereotypes because that's what's most visible. |
