Needed advice, hopfully some of you guys can help.

Been looking around for some time on reviews of the technics mk2's and i like them. The looks mainly. But i only have a budget of £240 and require just 1 deck.I was thinking of the stanton str8-80.Do any of you have any experince on this deck?....Give us some thoughts on how it performs for scratching
and mixing.Any problems and whats the build quality like.Cheers:tongue2

Stanton does make pretty decent turntables, but, the technics still owns... For scratching, the STR8's of stanton are excellent, the straight arm is perfect for scratching, but for mixing, it's not that good. If you wanna do both, I suggest you take a look at numarks, they have models where you can change the arm type.

check ebay, for 240£, I'm pretty sure you'll find a technics with a good needle on it. If I were you, I'd get a technics.

I'm guessing you use the Behringer VMX300.Thats the mixer i'm hopefully getting.Whats your reaview on it

I haven't heard any complaints about it. It's the best price/quality mixer you can get in my opinion. The only bad thing about it: the BPM counters, but heey, I cover them off ('cuz they distract me, and unlearn my beatmatching abilities). The kill switches are very usefull and they work very good. If you kill an EQ channel, it's really gone. You can't do any wrong with buying this mixer.

hehe um stantons are good but if you looking to scratch and mix go for the ttx1 by numark its the , the strantons i recomend (am probly gonna get eather a tecs or a 100 depending weather im into scratching by the time i have the cash for it) and as for the vmx-300 i have a 200 and i love it great mixer BUT WAIT TILL I GET THE 700 MWHHAHAHAHHAHAH, okay im done

No, but, actually, my mixer is the only decent thing I have, so, don't be jalous on my set... I'm embarresed for it.

I bought my 2 stanton str8-80's and the behringer vmx 300 about 4 months ago, and have no complaints.

Those stanton decks are good value for money. They also have a few extra features like key correction, reverse, and can play at speeds 33, 45 and 78 as well, which i don't think the standard technics can do. Although many of these features are probably not very useful, they are still good to have.

The only thing about the stantons, is because they have a straight arm, the needles wear out faster.

yea but thats also there so it dosent skip when you scratch with the ttx1 it has both that are interchangeable so you can do both... anyways scratching wears out your vinil so...

The 8-80 is a good turntable. While quality-wise it isnt as good as a 1200, its not really fair to compare the 2 since the 8-80 isnt designed to compete with it. Its made to be cheaper and thus plays cheaper. Be careful listening to people ragging on anything that isnt technics, people only think technics are the because they dont make a cheaper model. But if you put a 1200 up against a str8-100/STR-100, or a ttx1, the technics is shown to be what it is - dated and lacking features.

you don't even wanna know

I think the TTX is a pretty decent (modern) alternative for an SL1200... I'm not actually sure about it, but I think (by what i've read) that a TTX is better than a sl1200
Matty28
I agree with tiger777.I'd like to add that the TTX1 IS better on paper than the 1200mk2 but on the streets the technics win and you know why
