i dont want to:D
everybody is freaking out about this.
my computer could use a good formating. all my good files are on a diff hard drive than the system so it doesn't matter.
but i blocked the port anyway just to be safe, if by the slim chance we get the werm. i'm to lazy to fix my brother and sisters computers on my network also :D |

with a attitude like that to keeping your operating system up to date, you have a high risk of someone exploiting a security hole and causing some chaos to your machine. a trip to windows update at the most takes a hour... |

lol!
but seriously. i keep getting hit on ports 135 and 137. i have a firewall though. i portscanned myself and the thing said "one port open" 135 [ epmap => DCE endpoint resolution ]
what the hell does that mean? i have a firewall, ffs, and i'm not infected, so why is the port open? |

I read up on this on SARC after my boss got hit with this (and of course brought the PC into work for me to fix), but it hasn't touched my computer though... I don't even see the patch in Windows Update, w3ird. Maybe it was an update I downloaded a while ago but was just exploited recently.
Honestly though, I can't even count the number of critical updates I've downloaded for Windows XP which contain the words "could allow a remote user to [run arbitrary code on]/[gain Administrator access to] your PC". And to think that this system is actually more secure than Windows 9x/2K. Just do the smart thing and install a firewall - local is good, NAT is better.
Whiskers, it's hard to get good results doing a port scan on yourself since a lot of firewalls won't block the local address, try one of the online scans (can't remember the addies, someone else can post it). |

From my understanding, a infected computer will search for computers conected to the net, without the patch installed, once it finds a pc without the patch installed it exploits the hole, causing the pc to request msblast from the pc doing the attacking. once the file is recieved the anoying reboots start, and if rumers are to be belived, the infected pc's will start a ddos attack against windowsupdate.microsoft.com on thursday |

no offense but you're retarded. there will be lots of mods of this virus/worm soon. you think just by blocking a port, you can stop future infection?
I patched my pc then my dad's right after I heard the news (after I posted). Then I updated virus definitions. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes, you gotta be real lazy and careless not to protect your comp. |
