Depends what sound you're after...
If you want the warm, lush sound, you'd better be off with a valve preamp.
If you want more neutral sound, go the solid state way.
A lot of people consider Avalon preamps among the best ever, but they are expensive (then again I saw your questions about Protools HD and the Control|24, so budget ain't a problem I presume :D)
TL audio make some excellent ones also. If you're more into budget, but still want quality, I suggest you look at Tfpro (former Joemeek), don't be fooled by their colors.
As for the M-audio preamps, the best of their range would be the Tampa, and frankly didn't impress me a lot. |
