i think most people would agree that if you got lots of information every second of a movie, or life, it would be pretty exhausting. even with no add. mtv generation? thats a pretty broad theyve been around for a few decades. |

Set yourself little short-term goals and reward yourself when you complete them. Eg: you've got an essay planned out into sections and you wanna write it, but the little demon on your shoulder says "go and check your email, it'll only take a few seconds, then you can finnish the essay afterwards, you've got plenty of time"... This is where you get distracted check your email get on the message boards start surfing the web and before you know it half the day is gone...
If you wanna be the type of person that gets stuff done you tel yourself my goal is to finish parts 1 and 2 competely without compromise, after that I will get on the net for half an hour to reward myself. After you've firmly set your goal you cant change it or get up until after you've completed it. once you've finished section two you tell yourself "ok now i can reward myself by spending half an hour on the net..." set a stopwatch to beep in 30mins check your email, have a quick look at the message boards etc... then when the stopwatch beeps close internet explorer and set another goal... and so on and so forth...
If you set your rules firmly and follow them it'll get easier and easier... |

You know something, I share a very similar problem. For some reason, I can't keep hold of any particular thought for very long at all.
Take the other day for instance. I was walking to my car coming outside to take the trash out, when I noticed the neighbor's kids were playing basketball in the street. I'm so tired right now, it feels like I haven't slept all night. But the funny thing is, I slept quite well, about 7 hours worth. Why do so many people in my office complain about the littlest things when it comes to computers? Half the time I give them the default answer in a very polite manner, "Reboot you ing idiot!!!" So because of people not rebooting, I have to back out of the driveway and park a little straighter 'cause every damn time I pull into my parking spot I'm always a little crooked. It's not that I'm a bad driver or anything, I just get sick of watching all these damn reality shows. I mean really, how many more reality shows do we need here? I miss the era of the sitcom. There just aren't enough of sitcoms today, all these damn cats keep coming into our lawn. Why is that?
What the hell day is it today? Why did I just make another paragraph? What the.... what the did I just write? The hell was I talking about? What is this? Anyone tell me what website I'm on here? What the hell is this music coming out of my speakers? It's kinda catchy. What's this "Submit Reply" button down here? Should I press it? I think I will. |

P.S. Movie producers have been doing this since the 30's. It's nothing new. |

lol look at any mtv show, they cant keep the camera on an image for more than 3 seconds without changing filters, like making it black and white or switching the camera angle
stupid music videos |

don't test yourself, go see a physician and he/she will give you some names of specialists. dexedrine, ritalin, etc. are all free with a drug plan and they work. even for people that are lazy and dont necessarily have an extreme case of ADD. there are no major side effects aside from loss of appetite (for the length of the dose ie. 4-6 hours on most types of pills). just go and get tested and make sure u make them think u have ADD. dont be stupid and be ashamed or embarrassed by it. if you get diagnosed with it u can test the meds out and see if they work. dont try your friend's pills for 3 days, it needs to be administered consistantly.
do you have trouble filtering things so mostly the required information gets to your head? like do you get distracted by a voice in the hallway when you're trying to write something? people who don't have ADD can focus on one thing and ignore other things easily.
people with ADD can't. which one are you?
you don't HAVE to be on meds but it is the quickest path. the other alternative is a psychological one. make your decision based on who you think is a lesser fraud, a psychologist or a pharmacist? :D |
Okay thanks, ill see if i can get those drugs  Its usually when i have to study for midterms for when i have to do labs i procrasinate and cant sit down for very long to study, theres always better things to do than study right? argh.

i could never focus on highschool work, (i never seemed to be able to sit down and read the required reading because it was so boring, or there were better things to do) yet i left everything to the last minute when the pressure of either passing or failing actually got my attention(and made me do the work).
anyway, so i got into uni, and its the same thing here. i dont do jack . i think they call it "lazyness

| I think I have a mild case of ADD. I get distracted by ANYTHING when I'm doing homework or studying. A voice, a movement in the room (like even a rustling paper). It's horrible. But when I'm focussed on things that I enjoy (like computer games, or messageboards), I'm not distracted that easily at all. |

THanks partyprincess.
| quote: | | Sounds to me like you have a common case of "This is boring, let me go do something more fun." It doesn't seem like you have trouble doing things that you enjoy, is that right? That's the real test, I think. I mean if there's a show that I love on tv, it's honestly impossible for me to sit down and not want to go do other stuff or move around while it's on...Without medication that is. A doctor is not going to prescribe you any medication if you tell him that you have trouble cramming late at night when there's a good movie playing on tv. |
That is true. Id rather be doing something else than what i need and should be doing. :p
Dexedrine makes you horny eh? :p At least its better than making people impotent. :nervous: |
