Over on the gatecrasher forum we decided to do a little experiment of remixing each others tracks, and the first guy to offer up his track was a lad called Sean Wilson, and he put up the midi file for his tune 'Connected' so i took up the challenge and spent the last 2 weeks messing about with it and i've come up with a bit of a laid back trance affair.
now since i am still quite new to all of this i've reached the peak of my abilities to make this production sound pro, i'm sure you people could offer up some hints and tips.
MP3, 8.95MB, 192kbps, 6m31s

check it out please, let me know what you all think
Cheers in advance. |

Very wierd and soft synthy i must say. The wierd part is that the beats double up and breakdown like hlafway through the tune, weird bu i can live with that :D. The strings are ok but its lacking something, the synth can get a bit repedative sumtimes to but i think the song is supposed to be like this. overall it is good but could do with a bit work u no ;). keep working at it!

i like the way the kick sequence is done, the lag i like :) again very good when u look at how long uve been producing, and you nearly have the pro sound that u r looking for ;)
i think i may have already sed to u (via alan) that u need to phatten/layer up ur synths a little more, that floaty synth is nice for a while but it needs to progress onto something more inticate, if ur using reason 2.5 use the cv splitter and add more synths to the same pattern and play with lfo's and things :)
u may need to put a little more perc in there in parts to keep it moving.
all in all its a good original idea, keep working on it cus its not that far off ;) |

heh, cheers for the comments, what you both said rings true with me, i couldn't help but notice an 'empty' sound to the whole tune, and i've tried various things to combat this including layering the lead, and the strings, just can't seem to get it sounding the way i want it in my head, i suppose this becomes easier with more experience.
Has anyone else got any tips for improving my mix? I'd love tyo hear them.
Thanks. |

Heh, didn't realise it was the same Justin :D
I'll give it a listen once the download finishes. |

| It's good, but lacks punch! The ideas are sound, you just need to tighten up things such as the bass, fatten those synth lines... and add more perc as mentioned before. Nice melody, could do with more energy in it though. Good work, keep it up. |

What you really need is to beef up that melody, add fx and perc and do counter melodies. It sounds a bit thin.
But seriously - I can't really believe how fast you've progressed and this is far superior to anything I did when I had produced for as long as you. |

Nicely executed track :)
I love the drum sequences, got some great stereo atmosphere on them. Great work
Nice synth sequences, although the samples/patches U have used for them are much to weak sounding.
That is the main fault of the track. It doesnt have enough power.
Try to beef it up a bit, give it more of a punch.
Then you will have a real hit. :D |

Thanks Nik & Bren - that means a lot, lead synths are definately my downfall :haha:
i think i'll try the track with a completely different set of synth patches, this sample i'm using is obviously not fat enough. i'll keep you all posted. |
