it always irritated me that schools used social norms marketing to discourage drinking because it hypocritically promotes herd mentality by saying, "everyone else ISN'T doing it, so you shouldn't either" while in the same breath they tell you to "be an individual" and "don't follow the crowd."
EVERYWHERE around my school are posters, fliers, coozies, pens, notepads and mugs with the campus slogan, "2/3 of students have 0-5 drinks when they party." why is it any better to not jump off a bridge because everyone else isn't? did anyone EVER make a mark in this world by following the crowd? i ragingly despise social norms marketing and "it's for your own good" nonsense -- if i want to get drunk off my ass six times a week on MORE than five drinks you better believe i will and i'll be more motivated to because everyone else IS NOT!
i could rant on for another ten paragraphs at least because such hypocrisy drives me over the edge, but i'll spare you. btw, i do realize at the bottom of the story it says the research may not be valid but that's not the point of this post. |

The students at your school must have a low alcohol resistance.
I can drink well over "5 drinks" in a night and still drink sensibly. |

So what you're saying is;
In countries where alcohol is regulated, more young people get drunk and more often.
In countries where alcohol is unregulated, young people are not inclined to drink as much and/or can control their alcohol better.
That would be a good research project for a Sociology course |

| But still, 5 drinks in a night can't be considered alcohol abuse. Spilling your beer, on the other hand, is. |

Over here they just made a law that noone under age of 18 is allowed to drink alcohol. In the few months since that law passed the sales have probably doubled :) OK i understood that fridays after school people would go out in the park and have a few drink (hek even I was doing that for a while until it got boring...) But now its like im seeing drunken 14 year old everywhere :)
And that u cant buy alcohol in the sotres after 9pm is a beauty also...now people have to make stock and i see them walking out of stores with 2 or 3 bottles of vodka/jeggermaister/martini... each! And of course nobody wants to leave anything for enxt week or even next day sopreety much every drop of alcohol is destroyed that night :)
When i see this stuff i just laugh, look at my car keys lying in front of me at a bar table and continoue to drink my orange juice :D |
