what the deal with remixing, can you just take anyones track and remix it and then put it up on the internet or release it or do you have to jump through hoops to make sure that there isnt any copyright issues in violation, or can you do it without the original artist consent
anything would help, i have never done a remix before and am interested in knowing what the deal is
thanks

well, you are allowed to remix any track as long as it's only for yourself. If you release it in anyway without the permission of the copyright owner, you're breaking some laws, which isn't very good.. :)
still, remixing some famous song and posting it here, will probably not get you into trouble, unless you make a great remix which gets airplay without the original author's approval. ;)
remixing is fun and you learn alot, but do NOT try to release any of your remixes without the copyright holder's permission, because that will probably get you into a load of trouble..
(correct me if I'm wrong about anything, which I probably am :P) |

alright thanks, but what about...
if you wanted to remix a classical song or something that was made over 100 years ago ie pacabely(sp) montzart(sp) or something like that what would you do, who owns the rights to those songs?
and when an artist says "Hey remix my song!" on ta, or in a contest, do you have to get presonal writen permition from him/her to do that, like a copywrite realese form or something? |

| when someone asks for a remix, generally your going to have to talk to them anyhow to get a midi, so you wont have any problems there :P |
