State Liquor Authority Shuts Down Two Gatien Nightclubs

JUNE 20TH, 2001

The curtain has closed on two of Peter Gatien's nightclubs, as the State Liquor Authority voted Wednesday to revoke the liquor licenses for The Limelight and The Tunnel.

The agency cited disorderly conduct in October of 1992 as reason to pull the licenses.

Back in May, a state judge ruled the Liquor Authority could pull the licenses, saying Gatien was unfit to have them. The city has also been trying to shut down the clubs for other allegations, including drug dealing and underage drinking.

Gatien's lawyer says his client should not be punished for something that happened nearly 10 years ago. In his words, it's "simply stupid."

Gatien plans to appeal Wednesday's decision

Who cares, drinking at a club in the city sucks. Personally i last longer when i go sober. The clubs arent closed they just cant run the bars anymore(for now). Tunnel does suck, however i do plan to go to "One Nation" on July 3rd and i never planned on drinking anyway so i couldn't care less.

Peter Gatien is done. They are going to deport him back to Canada. At this pace, all we will be left in Manhattan with is Vinyl and Exit
twilochik
Nah there are plenty more places out there ....centrofly...saci...fun... and some others as well. They may be smaller and not the huge like Vinyl, Exit, or S.F. but they are still there none the less. Besides just give it time a new club will open to replace the ones now dead. Don't you think the people who went to Studio 54 said the same things we are saying today?! "Where will we go?" "What will we do?". This scene is always changing...evolving into something new...that's what's so great about it. Give it time and something new and great will come along and we'll all make new memories there! ;)
