DJ Classes

I was wondering if anyone knew of a Toronto-based company (or individual) who taught basic technical DJ skills. I would love to take a few classes, just to get the technical stuff figured out so I can learn this side of things quickly (and not have to start from ground zero) and focus on the more musical side of things... I know of a school for scratching, but nothing for more trance-friendly DJs.

I don't know about Toronto, but here in NYC we have a DJ;ing Academy run by a couple of Grandmasters. It was actually founded by that guy from Run DMC, the one that was killed a while ago. For anyone interested click here.

There are also some great books on the subject of DJ'ing.

Hey I'm just a rookie at djing but I think that the best class you can get it's by yourself in the way you'll get your own style not someones elses.
Ppl here has told me that practice is the only way really learn, so I started doing it and YES it works so just practice and get your own style !
Sorry I couldn't really help

I say practice on your own, however get that DJ book that was talked about the other day. I flipped through it at B&N and it looked good.

Chris, I had a flyer for a DJ school here in toronto...lemme dig that up for you

Edit: Well I must have thrown it out :(
however I was talking to the guys at release records and they said don't bother with it. The best way to go is learn on your own or with friends. There's lots of guys that spin here on TA (make a thread about it and you'll see about 1/4 of Toronto Tranceaddicts are djs  ) so finding a mixing partner/group shouldn't be a problem
