The place I call home...evacuated :((

Welp...official about 6 hours ago, the place I call home, in Glacier Park, was evacuated due to approaching forest fire. It hit the trigger point (evac point) earlier today about 2 miles from town. Although I'm sittin in my house, 400 miles away, my folks who live in and work for the park, headed into the valley to stay with friends...and I can't fly back...since it would do no good. I was sposed to be out there getting stuff ready for a week fishing in Alaska, but even that's up in the air now, if pops has to stay and do aerial observation flights...for more/the same fire(s).*sigh*.
Fire crews tonight are going to back burn 10,000 acres along the front nearest town to hopefully prevent the fire from moving into the neighborhood on it's own and leave the approaching fire no fuel to burn into. I.E. they are burning the whole hillside that's been our picture window the last 20 years.
I guess I'm just venting apprehension...as they back burn tonight when it's suposed to be cooler out...since tomorrow is supposed to be another 90+ degree day. Just hope the backburn doesn't backfire and head right into town. (since they backburn to within a mile of town.
Oh well...this hasn't been the first time we've prepared/actually evacuated...but this one is the closest. This is the price to pay for living in God's country...Keeps us on our toes. :)
Say some prayers for everyone in/around Glacier...as well as everyone fighting this, and all other fires around.

| that's too bad... is glacier park in washington state? cuz i know that there's this huge fire that's spreading and threatening to spread across the border |

Glacier Park is in Montana...on the Canadian Border with Waterton Nat'l Park.
There are 2 big fires in Washington...one by Coville...and another in the wilderness by Chelan which is about 65,000 acres...but that's pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
We flew by it the other day on the way to Kelowna...that sucker was cookin'
Glacier (and out of the Park) has a fire up on the border with BC, called the Wedge Canyon fire..about 20,000 acres it HAS destroyed some buildings...and I know the Canadians don't want our fires to cross the border...I say if they don't want it, come down and fight it :D...of couse the last one that stradled the border they did a very nice job helping us :D That was the Starvation Creek fire back in oh...98/99ish |
