Hi torontonians.. I have a quick question for you. I happen to be in town this weekend and I realized its caribana weekend. Now, I am pretty white and my friend wants to party at some club/bars on richmond street area. We heard covers are rediculous and iv been told ill stick out like a nun at an orgy. Can anyone give me any advice about what to do? Should I even bother? Id like to do it but the last thing i want is to get into a bar and have everyone staring at me. How much are covers? where are the best places to go?
thanks for all the help and advice.

No worries, i went to the unofficial street party on Yonge ST. last year .. no one is gonna stare at you. I'm Asian and I totally felt at ease. It was actually kinda cool being able to check out all the slick rides on the road .. never seen so much 19" chrome in my life. Talk about straight outta a Nelly video. Some of those SUV's I saw had diamond .. yes DIAMOND studded grills .. OMG :eyespop:
heh anyways, most of the revellers appear to be African-Americans who tend to come up here every year to lowride up and down Yonge. Some are there to catch Vince CArter's charity game at the ACC as well (which I'll also be attending).
As for the clubs and bars, just be weary and a little careful. Obviously with a crowd that large something is bound to go wrong, as it always does every year. But if u juss practice some common sense you'll be fine. It's actually a pretty fun weekend and does a lotta good for our city.
enjOY! :D
ps. if ur in town by Friday come by to SYSTEM SOUNDBAR for the TOTA INVASION 03 party!! |

lol, I share the same problem...
I'm debating whether to go or not, as I too am pretty white.
However, it wouldn't really be a true "cultural" event if they weren't open and friendly about others getting a taste of Caribana... |

trust me .. the organizers of this event would want all type of people to come. I don't specifically stare at non-Asians during Lunar New Year festivities at Pacific Mall ..
we wouldn't be truly Toronto unless all cultures were accepted in any type of celebration. so go ! :D |

wonderful thanks guys.. that eases my mind a little. Desi ill definitely try to make it to the TOTA night. if not i am for sure going to make it down to one.
Now what about covers and prices. Some people were throwing out some pretty rediculous numbers. My friend really wants to go to richmond: money/ fluid/ gspot... type places. Anyone have any idea how much they're going to be. Sorry to be such a pest. I am going to drag him to infected mushroom for revenge hehe |

bwahahahhahahahahah. Fluid, G spot, Money. :o
The TOTA night is free. As for cover at those top 40/rnb clubs it's about $15 I believe.
P.S getting into Money requires you to show up in dress pants and dress shirt tucked in. I once wore khakis (after being turned down at the door the first time previously) and they pointed at the sign and went "you see that? Dress code means you can't wear that." NEVER went back and don't want to.:) |

| Money roxx on sundays....3 dollar drinks 10 dollar cover and hip hop and house all night...not to mention tons of sexy women.. |

| That's nice. I can go elsewhere for that. Plus just because there are tons of women around doesn't mean I'll be guaranteed a good time. |
