Does anyone here use the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 for recording? If so, would you recommend it? I'm using exclusively softsynths so I'm primarliy interested in it for its 24-bit/96khz recording capabilities as opposed to how well it supports various hardware inputs.
Also, if you do any gaming with your Revolution, let me know how serious a load it puts on your CPU, as it does not offer hardware support for EAX, DirectSound, etc.
If the costs outweigh the benefits I might just stick with my SB Live! card. |

Well I don't know about the revolution, but I use the Audiophile which supports 5.1 channel playback if you want something that is both good for 24/96 recording as well as surround sound playback.

Uh? What are you talking about? If you really are using soft synths exclusively, all you need is a mix down from your sequencer - you're not recording anything! |

Any thoughts on the recording quality of the Revolution compared to the Audiophile 2496. The Audiophile doesn't have any 1/8 inch miniplug connectors as opposed to the Revolution. In addition, since its cheaper, i was considering the revoultion. Any comments on this subject? |

I think you'll probably be doing well with the Revolution.
I just picked up an Audiophile 2496 and I do believe they pretty much are the same card other than the inputs/outputs.
I had to go buy some cables and adapters to make the Audiophile able to go "double duty" -- Im a gamer and a music producer so I wanted both...Audiophile aint gamer freindly, although the sound is awesome once you have the adapters and cables. I use a Behringer 6 track mixer to switch from gaming speakers/sub to my Tannoy Active Reveal monitors when I am producing.
SO far so good!
The Revolution won't require you to buy adapters.
I look at it this way...
AUDIOPHILE - for recording/producing ....can work for gamers but needs adapters/cables.
REVOLUTION 7.1 - for gaming and PC work......can work for recording/producing but needs adapters/cables.
Totally depends on your priorities. Other than that...same card basically.:happy2: |

So with this card (Audiophile) you can connect 5.1 speakers and studio monitors? |

The 5.1 is sent out as a digital stream on the SP/DIF connector. So if you have a decoder, yes you can connect surround speakers on the AP24/96 |

By decoder... I suppose he means that even though you can get a 5.1 digital signal from the Audiophile you still need to run it to your stereo receiver (one that accepts digital 5.1 - NOT PROLOGIC). |
