I absolutely love this track, but I don't know what it would be classified as. I'm told it's the Taylor remix of "Busy Child" by the Crystal Method... it's from a mix described here:

Does anyone have suggestions for similar music? Could it be considered D&B? I'd love to get my hands on some! (BTW, does anyone have a copy of that CD? Mine's skippy). |

I know the original version of Busy Child is Chemical Breaks. It used to be popular in the American West Coast and there are many other similar tunes, from Crystal Method (buy their first album for a sample of what Chemical Breaks is), Uberzone (not really my taste though), Co-Fusion (there's a fun remix of a James Brown's tune) and many more... and, unless they sped it up to more than 170 BPM and Digweed felt like changing his style completely, I don't think this remix can be considered drum'n'bass :p
Drum'n'bass is very fast and doesn't have that 4/4 kick drum, which is largely used in trance, house and many other genres. It's a pretty easy genre to recognise: get your Casio keyboard and choose something like "rock 02" or any similar beat. Now speed it up till 170 or 180. Choose one of those instruments from the "bass" category. Now play some random melody. That's not what drum'n'bass should be, but I guarantee that when you hear the right thing you'll recognise it immediately :D
edit: Just heard the samples. It's trance, that's for sure. I don't know what kind of trance it exactly is because you can't really categorise everything in little boxes, but unless someone get a better definition, this is a non-techy tech-trance making its way to progressive house :D (being a genre freak myself, I'd tell you not to mind about it too much, otherwise you'll get crazy). |
