REVIEW:
DISC ONE
The first disc is mellow and smooth. Very relaxing, nothing too energetic. Very trancey sounds woven through some progressive style beats. To my surprise Oakey's mixing was not bad at all, he made good transitions, nothing that shows top notch Digweed-like professional skill, but his transitions were smooth and the tracks blended together nicely keeping in tune with the vibe. Tracks 2 and 3 sounded too similar IMO and so it felt like one loooong song, maybe because track 2 was remixed by the same person who produced track 3. Oh well, it wasn't bad, they were nice gentle songs with little nice melodies. As the pace begins to somwhat pick up through the next few songs he throws in a PERFECT slow beatless track (#6) with a great emotional vibe to it, though its barely over 2 minutes it does the trick. Nearing the end of the disc you eventually get to the unexpected Madonna track "Hollywood" remixed by Oakey himself. When I saw that, that song was on there I cringed, but after hearing it, it was fine and it fit in well and didn't phase me one bit. Overall the first disc was good, nice mixing and nice mellow tracks.
DISC TWO
Hmmm, this disc is different from the other one in a way. Not THAT different but the vibe is a bit more energetic, and more vocal. The mixing is again pretty good, smooth transitions and good flow between songs. I really like track 3 by Infusion, it's funky, fun and has a good groove and also has male vocals, and the melody is relaxing. Track 5 is housey (IMO) but it's ok, it doesn't screw up the vibe because Track 4 built up into a housey type vibe, so it works out just fine. But then the transition from Track 5 to Track 6 is a little messy, because you go from a housey vibe to a trance vibe, even though it's not the most intelligent choice it's doable because you soon forget about it as the song drifts you through it's soundscapes. Eventually the housey-ness comes back in this song, so the vibe makes more sense and the song is pretty good too. The next track is housey too, with a trance vibe (most of the songs on this disc are housey in nature but have lots of trance elements so it's a good mix of two in one). Anyway...this track is good with male vocals and it's a track you'd want to dance to, very dreamy too. The last 3 songs are pretty damn good, going from Oakey's "Hypnotized" to Patient Saints "Imperpetuem Mobile" which brings you back into the progressive trance vibe and really picks up the energy a lot, more so than any other track, probably one of my favorites on the disc. And then lastly there is the already proclaimed classic by Motorcycle "As The Rush Comes" but I must say the transition into this song is a bit un-slick but as you know this song grabs your attention and makes you forget about that minor infraction.
OVERALL
Overall this album is a nice relaxing and definetly dreamy journey through a mix of trancey house, progressive trance and ibiza style trance. Disc one is more of the trancey one of the 2 where disc two picks up the pace and throws in some trancey house and gets you moving. Overall bth discs are very involving and have the power to allow you to just lay back and just get lost in in the soundscapes. The transitions are good and the song selection is just right. There are no mindblowing tracks that are going to become huge but it's a nice smooth mix of dreamyness which melts into your soul and massages out all of the stresses of your day. Good Job Oakey :)
FINAL VERDICT: If you are an Oakey fan pick this one up definelty! If you are so so about him, give it a shot...and if you hate him, you might just like this one. Honestly he's not a bad DJ and this mix provides some support for this. |

Good review. But there is a mistake in the tracklist. On CD1 track 03 after Little Wonder - Eclipse is Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River (Bill Hamel Remix). After that track 04 is Leama - Requiem For A Dream.

as in depth as this is, it's a horrible review...trancey housey and ibiza style are NOT adjectives. as for the mixing comment..oakey is one of, if not the most professional djs out there so I dont know wtf you are talking about. NOOB. |

Thats for the UK release only. The tracklisting that was posted by him was for the US release.

Okay, that makes sense. :)
Pitty though for the US release, as the Justin Timberlake track is one of the best of the album IMO. And it flows very nicely after Little Wonder - Eclipse. |

Who the cares about my use of the terms tracey house and ibiza style trance...that's how I described what i hear, and it's my opinion, it's not supposed to be universal.
And as for his being professional, sure he is a pro, I never said he wasn't but there are WAY better mixers than he is (with beat matching and transitioning)...Oakey is the best (along with Tiesto) in track selection...they are both above par mixers but they don't reach the seemless transitional talents as the likes of Digweed and such. I am a big Oakey fan and have been since Tranceport was released, since then I have bought all of his albums, and have enjoyed them.
And by the way, just because I'm new here doesn't mean ! I've been registered to this forum sicne January, but never posted because I have other forums I go to in priority to this one. When something specifically provokes my interest in trance I come here once in a while. So off, new or old member, there is no difference. |
