Hey everyone!
I produce Hard Trance and I usually use a kind of "whoomp" bass which has a high attack on the filter envelope.
Anyway I am looking for some ideas on how to get a good Hard Trance bass. Either the "whoomp" style one I described above or another kind.
Which VST's do you use? Got any great Subtractor or Malestrom patches to share? or do you have any general synth programming ideas?
Thanks in advance guys!

You can do it pretty easily with most VSTs. The Synth1 is free and you can do it quite easily with one of the bass presets; just adjust the attack on the amp. |

Use rebirth for that Hennes and Cold style bassline. Other ways to get that woomph is to use a LP filter. Have it open up on the attack and close up on the decay. |

Hi!
It would also be nice to have some advices how to achieve the German hard trance bass with Reason :) Any ideas? |

You'll find with the hennes and cold, scot project basslines that they are not just 1 sample. There are usualy 3 samples layered together to get that sound..
I use the Malstorm synth in reason for this.. 3 seperate machines, sine waves all the way
There is the bass(bottom) sample that starts at the same time as the kick... giving the kick more bottom end (the kick shouldn't have much bass in it), and with the right attact and decay settings give the body of that whooooomp sound. Then on the off beat (k---b---) is the heart of the bassline.. thats the sameple that has the volume to it. Quick attack and quick decay with some layers of distortion (warm and rough) and a heavy amount EQing. Nowthat reason has the new Scream 4 distortion pannel you can add that warmth to it with the tape distortion.. then add another scream 4 and get the gritty sounds going..
Alot of work, time and tuning to get it all sounding right... i hope this gives some insite :) |

no probs at all :D
Remember.. it takes a bit to tune it right so spend some time with it.. you might also want to try adding some flange to it off beat samples.. the ones with the distortion.. use the synced lfo on the flange so that it makes only one pass per beat and that it's on the /| setting.. not /\.. nothing 2 full on.. just really subtle.. should give it more depth |

now that i think about it you can't change it's attact style.. so just play with it till it sounds right :P |
