Now I have installed the patch and am installing the updates, and now it just popped up. Well, I didn't restart after I installed the patch, so maybe it will work after this restart.. |
yeah it should fix it after the restart, during the boot up , the patch will update parts of the windows xp code which cant be updated while xp is loaded, a bit like why some programs need you to restart before you can use them properley. |

theres 100's of people being hit with this thru their ISP
http://warp2search.net/modules.php?...ticle&sid=13750
what u gotta do to buy the time to install the patch is this
1) Go to Administritive Tools found in Control Panel, then Services
2) Youll have a large list of services, find Remote Control Prcedure & Remote Control Prcedure Locator.
3) Go into both of their properties, 3rd tab over theres 3 drop down boxes for each, dop the same on all "Restart Service" (if error occurs). |

Well it should be solved now (knock on wood). Thanx for all your help!
One more thing.. That Windows Update thing on your comp, that downloads all the new updates (if you choose to), where is it? Cause I can't find it anymore.. If I accidentally have deleted it, is there some place to get it from? Cause it's much more comfortable to use it than to visit Windows update through the website. |

Already posted this in chill out forum but il put it in here also if people dont notice....
| quote: | Here's the full solution to all of tonights problems that iv figured out helping other forums and users, should help. While affected u wont be able 2 use copy and paste at ALL btw. :)
1) Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >. Administrive Tools
2) You'll have a large list of services, find Remote Control Procedure & Remote Control Procedure Locator.
3) Go into both of their properties, theres 3 drop down boxes for each, drop the same on all "Restart Service" (if error occurs).
C) Go here (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...in/MS03-026.asp) and choose ur Operating System and download the patch. (64 Bit is for dual motherboards)
Restart the PC - if u have a firewall running u should get asked about a program called msblast.exe wanting to access the internet, deny it.
Press CTRL + ALT + DEL and look for a program called MSBLAST.EXE - stop it running then delete the following file "C:\Windows\system32\msblast.exe".
Do the following "Start >> Run >> MSConfig >> Startup".
Look for msblast.exe and untick its box then apply settings > OK.
Also, "Start >> Run >> Regedit" then search for MSBLAST then delete the two keys u find.
Download ALL the critical updates from Windows Update. |
Also its only recommended to use Auto-Update if u have a legal version of XP :) |

does it? never used SP1 anyway, i know theres an "express" version of SP1 in windows update but i imagined it would also check reg details so never downloaded it. |

if sp1 is attempted to be downloaded on a illegal xp install, it will check the s/n against the database and if found not to be a registered copy, it wont install, how ever the xp install will still work, just no sp1. There are some corp ed. xp cd's out there with sp1 pre installed, and there are a few "work arounds" as well but i dont know where to find them as i havnt aneed to find out.
I would imagen if there is a sp2 it would not work on illegal installs as well. |
