What is Remote Procedure Call (RPC)?

So lately my PC has been shutting down due to some error message that says "Remote Procedure Call could not continue, please save your documents and log-off" and 60 seconds later I'm forced to restart. Anyone knows what the problem is? I can post a snapshot of the error message if you want to.
Please help! :( |

I think I found the answer for this:
Turn on the build-in xp firewall... it works fine for me right now... |

someone else is having this problem, and they posted in the FAQ forum, I havnt had this happen to me, all i can asume it is is some function within windows xp used by admins to remotly shut down machines (kinda like the mesenger service that spammers use to do pop-ups) what some script kiddie has discovered and think they are cool by shutting down peoples machines remotly.
i offer 2 things that may solve it
get all the updates from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
get soem firewall software running - www.zonealarm.com is a easy to use basic firewall that does the job, there are more advanced ones out there for people who know what they are doing :)

| Ah! Another thread, I'm having this same problem. There has to be a way to fix it now with all of us having the same problem. We need to get to the bottom of this...I do not want to lose my MP3 collection (even though 95% of it is backed up). |
